TLDR : Answer Summary
This discussion revolves around a user's successful application for the new Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), which they received without complications during their immigration process. Several commenters inquire about the nature of the DTV, the required documentation for applications (like proof of activity), and specifically how numerous individuals have obtained this visa based on various forms of activities, such as attending Muay Thai courses or participating in soft power initiatives. The conversation also touches on the perceived ease and potential implications of the DTV on existing visa types in Thailand.

Do you think it will really replace the retirement visa ?

@Andi **********
No because many currently on Retirement Visas will not meet the requirements for a DTV (unless they enrol for a 3 day cookery class 555)

It's pretty easy to become a "remote worker". Just register a business name and do a few simple trades on the sharemarket. If brainless YouTubers can do it, anyone can.

For many people yes it will. It trumps all the other retirement visas, O, OA, OX and LTR in requirements.

is right. If you fail to qualify for LTR, DTV has you and every 22 year backpacker covered. They are already calling it the Cheap Andy visa! A beauty 😂

Yep. I reckon we're going to see a drop in METV applications too. The DTV is the way forward! From backpackers to crusty old retirees, it's a winner!!

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your stay. I assume you got the DTV based off of working remotely? I still hope to find any proof of someone having managed to get one based off of Thai soft power activities.

There is a posting by someone from the UK who received a DTV based on a 4-week Muay Thai course confirmation letter. Applied online.

"Oddly some Embassies say attending a music festival is a valid reason for giving the Visa. I am from UK and now have the DTV based on a 4 week booking of lessons only at a Muay Thai gym. Not actually sure how short that booking could be and still justify the Visa" I just used a confirmation email from the gym I'm going to as the document.

The Muay Thai gym is a fairly new one on Phuket with an American owner.

I think the rules will be better defined over the next year - but TiT so each Embassy will have it's own.

VFS actually processed mine not actual Thai civil servants. At the moment the VFS team acting on behalf of the UK Embassy seem to have a lenient interpretation of the documents needed."

Interesting. If true, it would be the first I am hearing of this and that someone could manage to apply with a short and random gym conformation. I was under the impression institutions would need a government license to qualify.

Seems, just a letter of participation is needed, Somone who contacted Indonesia regarding in person application said no minimum course time is needed, just a letter and proof of the 500K.

A crazy development. Will be interesting to observe how this all plays out and how Thailand will be affected by this further opening with low to now barriers. I am happy for fellows who have been waiting for better ways and visa. But I am also concerned about the amount and type of people Thailand might be attracting now.

I imagine things will tighten up if DTV entrants cause "trouble". Also, at the 6mths mark for extension and even reentry immigration can request evidence of funds and approved activity. Would be wise not to burn through the 500K if staying 6mths plus.

I don’t think anyone has gotten the soft power option yet, from what I can tell? Because it doesn’t seem clear what activities are authorized under the DTV. I would love to know as well, since I’m not a digital nomad/ remote worker 🤷‍♂️

yeah man, it seems this Visa is just directed towards remote workers/digital nomads, so far. In these Visa groups, I haven’t seen anyone say they’ve been approved with the soft power option yet.
