Why not apply for the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age (retirement) before travel to Thailand?

You get 90 days of stay, have already the correct visa to open a bank account, it makes live a little easier.

You can apply at some offices during the last 45 days, others 30 days of your new Admitted to Stay period which you get on entry.

a Work Permit is a booklet that allows you to work for the employer mentioned in this booklet and does not allow you to stay inside of Thailand. The stamp Admitted until or Extension of Stay permitted until xx/xx/xx/ stamo in your passport allows you to stay, but under the condition that the reason to get this stamp did not change.
