Tony Handley asked in another topic: Should you not just apply for an extension each year...I've read on the official site that you must do this for 3 consecutive years before you can apply for settlement...this is the way I'm intending doing it after I marry my Thai girlfriend...any advice much appreciated ☺👍Tony

TLDR : Answer Summary
Tony Handley seeks advice on obtaining yearly visa extensions after marrying his Thai girlfriend, noting the necessity of three consecutive extensions before applying for permanent residency. Community members provide insights on the process, highlighting the need for multiple-entry visas, financial requirements for extension applications, and the challenges of attaining permanent residency in Thailand, which has stringent conditions and a limited number of approvals each year.

For PR application you must pay B 200 000, for Thai citizenship its much less. The waiting time is many years.

The 'settlement is called PR - Permanent Resident Status. The truth of the matter is that only a few are given out each year. Even if vigilant about gaining and sticking to the path of requirements... There is no guarantee you will ever get it.

true. Depending on nationality and other conditions but it is always good to try it .

A little worrying 😐😯

Correct. After you are married you need two to three years of extension of stay based on marriage. A new VISA other then the initial Non O is not needed as long as do not accidental cancel it with travels outside Thailand and not bought a reentry permit. To the extension of stay you can buy a multiple reentry.

For the extension you need to deposit 400k bath in a Thai bank account two month before apply for the extension of stay the first time and three months for renew the following years.

- I have to return every 3 months year one to sort out many things....means time apart but we got through a 7 month stint thanks to the bloody morons at UKVI

if you have the economics in place you actually only need a single entry Non O. Travel down to Thailand apply for the extension of stay when you have about 30 days left of your stay.

If the application is approved you will have new stamps in your passport with the permission to stay. This is when you can buy the reentry,

If you plan to make a borderbounce before you apply, ie if you want to stay more than 90 days before applying, you need the multiple.

Depends on how you plan this.

Hi all...just to clarify...apply for O Non Immigrant visa 1 yr with multiple entries...and you ONLY need to apply for the re-entrant permit for the extensions? Like everyone else want to get it right 1st time don't want to risk being pushed back to ZERO once I have the 1st year in the bag...thanks for your help much appreciated ☺👍👌

A single entry valid for 90 days and give you 90 days of stay on entry or the 1 year multiple entry which gives you 90 days on entry till the valid until or enter before date on the visa.

David Broadfoot Every Thai consulate in the world sells the Non Immigrant O visa based on being married to a Thai National.

@Robert ******
ok .

Then i do the mariage first then get back to Europe get the visa O and then i apply for next steps.

I was a bit confused and i want to do things right .

But now i understand .

Again many thanks to all of ye who keep this group running ...

No, first you need to get the Non Immigrant O visa based on Marriage to a Thai National. Some Immigration Offices can change from Visa Exempt Entry of Tourist Visa to this Non O visa, not sure if you can do in Phuket. If not you have to travel to a Thai Consulate.

@Robert ******
one more question for today .

Example:

-I get prior a 60 days tourist visa.

-I will extend it for another 30 days at emigration in phuket

-then between those 30 days i will get married

-then next :

Can i apply for another extension of stay based on marriage ?

Then once i get it . I will apply for re entry permit .

I will have that 400.000B in my account 3 months before i marry .

As soon as the Extension of Stay is stamped in your passport you an apply for a Single Re-entry Permit, 1.000 Thb or a Multiple Re-Entry permit, 3.800 Thb if you like to travel more times. There is no limit but you have to be back before the permitted up to date, so you can apply for a new Extension of Stay and re-entry permit.
Sebastian ************
Robert Lagas

That means i need to apply for re entry permit before i leave ?

And is there any limited amount of days you can stay outside Thailand ?

Or where you get that re entry permit ?
Robert *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
If you like to travel on an Extension of Stay you need a re-entry permit, on return you will get the same admitted until date as the Extension of Stay is permitted up to date in your passport. If you travel without this re-entry permit, the Extension of Stay stops on the day you leave Thailand.
Sebastian ************
@Robert ******
can you please explain how you keep it alive or how you can lose it ?

If you don't mind
Robert *******

You need to be 3 years consecutive on the Extension of Stay. You are allowed to travel but you need to keep this Extension of Stay alive.
Sebastian ************
@Peter **********************
so please make me understand. As im really confused.

It mean that you can not exit Thailand for 3 years ?

Say you have extension of stay based on marriage then you travel to Europe and then you entry again in Thailand it means that every time you travel outside Thailand you bring the clock back to 0 ?

Thanks ...

For Extension of Stay it is always 2 months prior application date if you use money in the bank, you can also use the minimum of 40.000 Thb monthly income, if from abroad certified with letter from your Embassy or if from inside Thailand with 3 months of Tax and SSO payments.

You are referring to a application of citizen ship, there is lots of information the be find on the internet. Application must be done in the provincial head quarters of Royal Thai Police and there you also can get the list of all requirements and points you need for the application.

Yes that's my understanding David...but I might be wrong...it's all on the Thai Embassy website for London...but after what Robert said about Marriage Visa and the financial requirements I'm going to look into that as well...ultimately my goal is to permanently settle in Thailand ☺ 👍👌 ...she's beautiful btw 😉😂

@Robert ******
I dont believe he is talking about citizenship. Seems to be asking about permanent residency.
