TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the possibility of extending their stay in Thailand on a single entry visa and then executing a border run to re-enter on a visa on arrival. Community comments clarify the process of extending a tourist visa for an additional 30 days and highlight the limitations on border runs and visa types. It is noted that extensions and border runs are subject to specific immigration regulations, suggesting the necessity of knowing the visa type and passport nationality to provide a complete answer.

The tourist visa would have been for 60 days. ? So he could theoretically stay for 150 days with one border run ? What is his option after 150 days ? Do it all again. ?

he can ONLY stay 90 days on the tourist visa and a 30 day extension. :/

Border bouncing would give him a NEW 30 day visa exempt entry stamp OR he could go to a thai consulate in another country to BUY a tourist visa would give him 60 <- both which could be extended by 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht

If he want to enjoy his holiday inside Thailand longer he can do a second border run, he can apply for a Visa. Or he can just go home, he can enjoy his holiday in other countries. There a lots of options to choose.

With the Tourist Visa you can apply for the 30 day Extension of Stay, cost 1.900 Thb. After that you can do a border run and come back with a Visa Exempt Entry that gives you again 30 days, this can also be Extended with another 30 day at Immigration. But you can only do two border runs a calendar year.

There is no official limit on how may visa's you can have, BUT Thai Consulates/Embassies do count the amount of visa's in your passport and if they think you have to many they put a warning stamp next to the visa. On entry in Thailand, out of reports is that people seem to be living in Thailand with a longer history of tourist visa and Visa Exempt Entry having a bigger chance to get asked the three proofs: 20.000 Thb in cash, accommodation an onward travel. So be prepared.

We can not answer the question, without knowing what kind of Single Entry Visa you have, not all visa's are legible for the 30 day Extension. Next to that a Visa on Arrival is for 15 days and only for 21 countries. What is the country of origin of your passport and how many border runs did you make this calendar year?
