TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent updates indicate that securing a tourist visa to Thailand has become increasingly challenging. Expats are advised to prepare necessary documentation such as a flight ticket to their home country, a reservation for at least three days at a hostel, and, for those who have frequently visited Thailand or hold multiple tourist stamps, a bank statement. Specifically for divers, a diving license may also be required. Individual experiences vary, with some expats reporting no issues as long as they comply with consulate requirements.

I've never known Jim to post information which isn't correct.

If he is saying you need to supply certain documents, I would say you need to supply them.

I'm in Penang now and picked up my SETV on Friday. I have a USA passport but I bought an exit ticket to Cambodia. I had no problems at all, just make sure you have all of the forms requested on the Royal Thai Consulate page.

Indeed, getting tired of reading: I want or I need. You like to be a tourist in Thailand, to stay in Thailand the Royal Thai Immigration Bureau and the Thai Government set rules and requirements. Just follow them and you are okay, if you want different rules contact them and ask them to change in your favor.

I still find it amazing how some people can't seem to grasp simple conversational skills or expecrt evberyone to be ok with their 'me first' attitude. Its crazy really. You have more patience than me, I can't read half these posts as I know what they will be like. I commend your effort and your help. Both yourself and Tod and anyone else who genuinely helps are doing amazing job

A flight ticket to your own country sounds a game changer. I assume that means a flight to your country of passport issue?

yep, now the closest to thailand where you can pull a 6 month METV visa without holding residence in the country where you're applying is from the consulates in Australia

Thanx go to Samuel Fila for updating the group (y)

Sorry off topic but to save starting another thread, I have a friend asking about the METV they was issuing in KL. I'm reading reports that it's no longer possible. Does anybody know 100% if this is correct?

I could call them but I never trust anybody on the phone who may or may not be qualified to answer.

That was my point Tod - what if you have an onward ticket (which is understandable ) to a destination other than the country of your passport ie Uk citizen flying onto Oz ! I too appreciate all the good work you & Robert put into the page as I have previously posted.

I agree that flight ticket back to country of passport origin will be a game changer down there, because before you only had to show onward travel to another country and the agents got around that by getting their clients a cheap bus ticket.

I think the requirements are dependant on the consulate. If you do not want to meet the requirements... go to another consulate. or do as

If you do NOT want to meet the requirements you do NOT get the Visa. Easy to understand I think.

Read again all the answers in your earlier posts. They talked about a Tourist Visa with Multiple Entry valid for 6 months which you can get at a Thai Consulate or Ambassy in you home country.

a VISA Exempt Entry is coming to Thailand and did NOT buy a Visa before. So you enter the Thailand without a Visa.

There is a big difference in a border, Thai Consulate and Thai Embassy. There is also difference in enter Thailand with or without a Visa, please try to explain where you want to go and what you like to do.

No, you can only enter TWICE a calendar year without a Visa, using the Visa Exempt Entry.

Ron Angel There are legit services where you can rent real flights for 48 hours at a cost of around 10 to 15 dollars.

Even other more shady methods won't turn out to be as problematic as some may think.

Probably not the smartest move, trying that on when they are requesting a confirmed ticket to your own country. If that comes to light, you will be in Malaysia longer than you planned for attempted fraud I would imagine.
