Our good new friend and Chang Mai Immigration Volunteer Mike Gaudet is trying hard to explain about the office there.
Mike Here you go:
After volunteering at Chiang Mai immigration by the airport for the past two weeks and heading back in on Monday, I need to put this out. I also attached two docs outlining entry and stay requirements as of this past Friday. It may not apply to you, but please pass along to those you know...
Reminder to everyone experiencing visa issues inside Thailand (Chiang Mai):
In Chiang Mai, visa extensions for 30-day tourist visas are done at PROMENADA MALL, in the old TM-30 office location. 1900 THB. Hours are 8:30-4:30, but queue runs out around 2:30. That may change, but that was as of Friday. PS - They also do 90-day reporting there and ONLY there. Do not go to the airport location to do TM-47 (90-day reporting) paperwork.
After your first extension, without a Consulate letter, you can get a 7-day extension at Promenada location for 1900 THB (as of Friday. See attached doc, though). Again, this may change, and if so, I’ll update accordingly once I verify on Monday.
If your country issues letters from the consulate/embassy requesting the Kingdom to extend you due to COVID-19, come to the immigration office by the airport. Bring 2 copies of passport, TM-6 departure card, and current visa stamp (only VOA or tourist visas), and 2 photos for the TM-7 applications. Still costs 1900 THB as of now. Countries that I know do NOT issue consul
Letters as of Friday: USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany. That may change by tomorrow. Call your embassy and ask.
For long-stay visa issues, come to the airport location and bring your passport, a blue pen, and all your visa-supporting paperwork. Extensions can be done in-country, but require all supporting docs. As of Friday. Consulate letters are not required for long-stay visa extensions.
ALL Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and Malaysian citizens requiring visa extensions come to airport location. 2nd extension requests require a consul letter (original, not a copy). Initial requests are processed right outside the Laos, Burma visa service office at the airport location.
The situation is changing. The rules are changing. Please be patient and understanding when you swing by. I’ll be there to assist and answer questions at the airport location. If I can’t answer, I’ll find out. I won’t answer conjecture or opinion because all I know is what’s in place, not what WILL happen unless the officers let me know to release to the public. But I’m more than happy to ask and see if I can find out.
It’s a mad, mad world we’re in, but we’re in it together. This too shall end, but we need to navigate through it, first.
Good luck, everyone. I think I covered the bulk. If you have questions, let me know. If you swing by immigration tomorrow, I’ll see you there
TLDR : Answer Summary
Mike Gaudet, a volunteer at Chiang Mai Immigration, provides updated information regarding visa extensions and reporting procedures. Extensions for 30-day tourist visas are handled at PROMENADA MALL, costing 1900 THB, with specific hours and processes for different visa types. He emphasizes the need for proper documentation based on nationality and visa type, particularly noting variations for long-stay and other visa categories. The situation is fluid, and he encourages patience and communication with local immigration officials.
