TLDR : Answer Summary
Kelly is concerned about her ED visa expiring in August and has been advised to leave the country to reapply. The discussion reveals that there are options for extension of stay and potential eligibility to switch to a retirement extension, depending on financial requirements and current visa status.

It's going to come down to whether you can meet the proof of funds by having the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 2 months BEFORE you apply for the new extension based on being over 50 (retirement).
You have to cancel your ED visa extension and then immediately apply for a new yearly extension based on retirement right then. Can you meet the financial requirements?

Simply calculating, last day in August, If you are inside Thailand on the initial 90 days of the visa you have entered Thailand in May and at that time the borders where already closed, so not possible.
As you are on an Extension of Stay based on study in Thailand you can EDIT
just told me that you can switch into an Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age at your local Immigration Office as long as you can meet the requirements.
we need to know if you are on an extension of stay from the immigration office OR if you're still on the original 90 day entry from the ED visa itself.
