My experience in Savannakhet.

Went yesterday at 08:30 AM to the Consulate.

It opens at 09:00 AM, not as mentioned on the post outside at 08:30, about 10 people in line. Walked in, asked for the application form, joined the back of the queue and walked out at 09:30 AM with ticket nr 15.

Today went back at 13:30 PM, Was first one at the gate for the 14:00 PM pick up time. Still over 50 people in line to apply for a visa, even when on the big signs is mentioned closed at 11:00 AM. At 14:05 PM gate opens, guard ask us to follow, went a little detour and a lot of angry faces from those in line. Handed over my queue number, got back the passport, checked the Visa and looked at now very surprised people on the other side. Funny part was at application, she took the original wedding certificate, waved it from left to right several times above her head and gave it back. It seems somebody in the back want to see the originals, but is okay with the distance.

All well done, apply 30 minutes, pick up 10 minutes including me checking. Back to the border, stamped out and stamped in without questions.

I picked up some stories about Immigration at DMK, several Offices inside Thailand, but as it will be hearsay I will not share. I'm only glad that I don't work and I will, what ever happens in my lifetime or next lives always refuse to work as an Immigration Officer. I never heard so much BS in such a short time.

Do you need to have your name in wife’s house book?

They did not ask for Lao entry visa or stamp copy, she did look in the passport if I had them.

@Ken ******
you should have copies of it but there are reports of it not always being asked for.
Ken *******
Is a copy of the Lao entry visa and stamp needed?
Robert *************
thanks!!

You need a copy of the house book that your wife is listed in.

It doesn't have to be the address where you live, just her house book listing

Did you have to prove you had
*****
0Baht in a Thai bank. I will be applying for my first Non O later in the year

@Ian ********
now with my previous comment ^

there ARE thai consulates that make you show proof of funds for Non-O visas,. BUT the ones in Savannakhet and HCMC do not require it for Non-O visas based on marriage.

@Ian ********
you are confusing getting a yearly extension INSIDE the country at the immigration office with getting a year long VISA at a thai consulate OUTSIDE the country. Two completely different things
Ian *********
@Tod ********
Thanks Tod, I always thought I had to prove

0 if married or
*****
0 if not married. That’s a big relief
Tod *********
there is no proof of funds for a Non-O visa at Savannakhet

Is your marriage cert from Thailand ?

What do I have to do if my marriage certificate is from my home country ?
Dominic *****
@Caleb ****
Are you in Thailand or Singapore now? You need a notarized copy of your Singapore marriage certificate, a Thai translation. Then you need to get the Thai translation notarized. If you are in Singapore, the notarized copy can be done by a notary public and the last step can be done at the Thai embassy. If your wife is not confident to do the translation, you can go to Golden Mile or Beach Road area, many Thai translation service companies there.
