it is more easy to make a new topic than to hijjack a post.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether a retirement visa in Thailand can be converted to a marriage visa. According to comments, a visa type cannot be changed once issued; however, it is possible for an individual with a retirement extension of stay to apply for a new extension based on marriage. For the marriage visa, one of the requirements includes having a minimum of 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account or a monthly income of at least 40,000 THB, which can be proven through various means.

If you talk about your friends has an Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years, the big stamp from Immigration and he likes at the end of this permitted period to apply for a new Extension of Stay but now being based on married to a Thai National, yes it is possible.

And one of the requirements of the Extension of Stay based on being married to a Thai National is the financial one as:

- at least 2 months prior application date a minimum of 400.000 Thb on a Thai bank account

Or monthly income of minimum 40.000 Thb by affidavit from Embassy, 12 months international deposits if embassy does not provide or tax payments inside Thailand if you work.

Be aware that more and more Immigration Office like to see next to the Income Affidavit from the Embassy, that there is actually money transferred into a Thai bank account used for living costs.

Somehow having only money abroad seems strange.

yes, he can use monthly income for the Extension of Stay

- The income affidavit from his Embassy with minimum 40.000 Thb a month income

- if Embassy does not provide anymore, at least 12 month of minimum 40.000 Thb foreign deposits into a Thai bank account prior the application date

- 3 months proof of salary made in Thailand of minimum 40.000 Thb with tax and sso payments.

Sorry about my poor wording.Yes, he has an extension of stay based on retirement (over 50) as per your second post and wants to extend based on marriage. He would find it difficult to have the 400k but can show 40/month. My question is - can he show the 40/month? The reason I ask this is, if I understand correctly, on applying for the original visa one has to have 400k in a Thai bank, but an extension one can show either?

Convert retirement to marriage? a Visa can not be changed, you gave the documents to the Consulate, they put the sticker inside your passport and all is done and dusted. You just use this visa till the enter before of valid until date.
