No Tips Please. You do not have to pay for the service of the Immigration. You only pay for the Visa or Extension of Stay. Also signs at the border at Sadao: “No other fees charged in passing this border”.

He also vowed to go after agents that use fake documents for Extension of Stay, first arrest is made in Bangkok.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the clarification that individuals do not need to pay for immigration services beyond the actual visa or extension fees, supported by signage at the Sadao border stating 'No other fees charged in passing this border.' It also highlights recent actions against agents using fake documents for extensions, with notable arrests made in Bangkok. The comments reflect a mixed response about tipping immigration officers and concerns about future immigration processes for expats.

It takes a short time to change the subject into a chat about UK and Thai driving licenses. Sorry guys, but that has nothing to do with Thai Visa. For all the others, thanks for your contributions.

At every 90 day report I make in person (because on-line only works one third of the time) the Immigration Officer asked how much I paid the Visa Agent and that it would be much cheaper to 'do it with us'. You can take that two ways! The other day I legitimately renewed my extension. My Thai Mrs gave the I.O. 500 baht extra. I asked her why? She said that it was not asked for but she gave it 'in case we need help in the future'. Tipping officials is built into the Thai culture. In other Countries also of course.

He'll be getting promoted to head of the UK border agency at this rate.

Off-topic, but I love the term 'transferred to inactive posts' - does that just mean they're going to get paid to do nothing now?

Sounds like people employed in the visa-industry are in for a bumpy ride.
Jason ******
they should put this sign up in more places. people who tip just make the employees expect tip from everyone and then complain if someone just gave 20b instead of 100b like most foreigners do
John *****
If he really tackles the agents and false financial submissions along the lines of the arrests made yesterday, then a tsunami will hit the ex-pat immigration process.

Time will tell.

Agents aren’t going to stop bribing these guys because of a sign! Lol ...

and what has Uk and Thai driving license to do with Thai Visa?
George *******
@Christopher **********
my UK license is plastic photo card type. weird thing - i just had to renew it in the UK and during the application they noted that my photo was over 10 years old, but were able to access my passport photo(which is quite recent) somehow via the goverment databases, so my new DL has my passport photo in it.
Christopher ***********
@George ******
Are they paper or photo style George? Some stories of paper ones not being accepted.
George *******
Andy cheers, but i just want to convert my UK car/bike license to a thai one - i think you can do that now, right?
