TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports indicate that 20 foreigners were arrested in Thailand for overstaying their tourist visas, originating from various countries including Egypt, Russia, the Netherlands, Laos, Myanmar, India, Greece, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, and Qatar. The discussion highlights the importance of understanding visa validity and rules, as many mistake the tourist visa's validity for a 90-day stay rather than realizing it only allows for a 60-day stay upon entry. Opinions vary on how to handle visa overstayers, with some advocating for strict penalties including deportation or lifetime bans, and emphasizing the need for legal compliance among expats.

AND remember a single entry tourist visa doesn't get you stamped in for 90 days :O It's VALID for 90 days from the date they issue it. That means you have 3 months to enter the country and get stamped in for 60 days.

MANY people think because the thai consulate says a tourist visa is "good" for 3 months that they get stamped in for 90 days when they enter thailand..

Carlos, Deportation in Thailand means, stay in the Immigration Detention Center till you can buy a one way ticket to your country of residence, most of the time with your National carrier.

Thai gov dont want pay for their prison time - so better deport and blacklist.

I can't see any problem with rounding up and kicking out over stayers.

I am not a smart man but even I can follow the rules to stay here legally. If I can do that why can't other people?

Well said and I agree 100%.

Agreed. This is also the logic used for deporting illegal aliens in the USA.

Why should be careful . I entered Thailand legally and did all the foot work for my visa and Thi driving licence and insurance without the use of a dodgy agent to lie about my income. and I am happy to follow the rules of the kingdom and I love my life here. And it dose not bother me one bit when any foreigner from whatever nation gets kicked out for overstay or illegal working,,,, so if you don't have any money or need to work illegally in Thailand then don't bloody come here and mess it up for the rest of us lawful residents

Well said, unfortunately not all readers of this page follow the rules of this country like us. For them: Be careful out there.
