If you mean a retirement visa as in Extension of Stay based on 50 years of age, you need OR an income affidavit from your Embassy with minimum 65.000 Thb income a month OR if your Embassy does not provide, at least 12 months prior application a monthly foreign deposit of minimum 65.000 Thb into your Thai bank account.
Robert *******
But quick answer, it depends on your embassy

what you want to do?

Apply for a visa or apply for an Extension of Stay?

What is your Nationality?

If extension of stay, what kind of Visa you have?
Robert *******
If you mean to apply for a visa before you visit Thailand, like the retirement visa as in application for a new Non Immigrant O or O-A or O-X visa, please look at the requirement of the Thai Embassy in the country where you apply.
Robert *******
And before others start their own interogations in why, what and how, I close it down as your question is answered.
Robert *******
As you answered yourself, this is all on a case by case basis.

Have a plan B ready to or apply for the 1 year Extension of a trip to another country.

I hope you can understand that we can not tell what an unknown Immigration Officer at an unknow immigration booth at an unknown international airport in Thailand on an unknown date will do. For sure we can tell he will do his job, if that is with or without asking a question is his/her personal decision.

Sounds like all is correctly done, thanks for the report.

That is not the Thai border, but I guess you refer to the Immigration rules of Cambodia who mention that persons need to stay minimum 1 night.
