Hi All.

I have tried searching for this answer but keep coming up with old posts on covid extensions [ not this at all.] Myself and partner are in Hua Hin . However partner now has covid and is pretty poorly [ does not require hospitalisation] and i hope never will !! but can't get on a plane which we are set to go on back to uk on Monday 1st of May unless things really quickly changes . However our visa excempt also runs out that same day! What does one do in this situation will immigration give me a further week or something so he can get over his illness? If so what are the requirements or what do i need to do , we really need to get back to uk asap l . [i'm also petrified i will go down with it as well [doing all i can to prevent that happening though]. This all v stressful! Thanks for any help .

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in Hua Hin is concerned about their visa exempt status expiring on May 1st while their partner is suffering from COVID-19. They are seeking advice on the steps required to extend their stay in Thailand given their partner's illness. Responses suggest applying for a 30-day extension at the immigration office, as it is permissible to extend the visa exempt stamp. Additionally, if considering a medical extension for the partner's condition, obtaining a doctor's note and hospital documents is necessary, and this application must occur before the current visa expires.

Be aware that the "unfit to travel" is ONLY for your partner, not you.

okay from what I can glean from this convoluted story, the O/P got a NEW 45 day visa exempt entry stamp on Mar 18th with an expiration on May 1.

This means the CAN go to the immigration office and get a 30 day extension on it for 1900baht (seeing as you can get a 30 day extension once on EVERY entry and they don't have one on this stamp yet)

That gets them another month without the hoop jumping to "get a medical extension" because of covid.

Good luck to the O/P, get the 30 day extension you're allowed. If your story of entry, etc is correct, you don't need to get an extension based on medical reasons

The only way to get an Extension of Stay based on medical reasons is with a doctor statement and hospital support.

So get him to a hospital and shout out before entry he has Covid, it seems amazing but hospitals, nurses and doctors know how to handle and how to put the patient in an safe area.

If you haven't already got your 30 days extension on your visa exempt you could just do that

Unfortunately already have that . This extension was a border run stamp via land.

Check with the hua hin office about how you can do it for your partner, too ASAP. Means, if the power of attorney can help there.

Thank you for all this!! As my flight is still booked for 1 may will they require me to show another different return date back to uk for this extension ??as thats a guessing game as i won't know when he's fit enough or whether i'll be fit enough .

If you haven't applied for 30 days tourism extension on your 45 days visa-exempt entry, you can apply once again. It is far better and easier to do. Go to apply for it within this week.

I'm guessing you don't need to rush to immigration if you got stamped in for 45 days at the end of March. You can apply for the 30 day extension right up until your permitted to stay date so you should have a bit of time for your husband to recover.

, It's her decision to wait until the last minute or do it earlier of course, but their stamps are up on May 1, too (If I read it right)

a border run stamp is not an extension it is an entry stamp which can be extended for 30 days

You need to visit a hospital and get documents from the hospital which state you are unable to travel so that to be able to apply for a medical extension. The medical extension has to be applied during the current stamp is valid. You cannot apply for it once you are on overstay even one day, so you need to apply within this week. Without documents from a hospital, not a clinic, you cannot apply for an extension for medical reasons.

You need to contact the hospital. I doubt the doctor and hospital would issue any document without seeing the patient though.
