I wasn't that impressed. It's a specialized bit torrent system, if you're familiar with that. If you are not familiar with bit torrents than it's probably a good buy.
For 9 years I have been "working remotely". The Thai Government as mentioned they will start collecting taxes from people staying here long term - but they haven't really indicating who will pay, how much they will pay, nor what is to be done about double taxation. You will find people in this group who speculate about new tax policy but it hasn't been implemented yet so nobody really knows.
There is some benefit to creating a business here (if you do it right you can get some visas) but it's complicated and very little benefit.
If your family includes children you will need to concern about educating them, specifically will you be sending your kids to school or home school. If you send them to school, how much, will they help with the kid's visas, etc.
I have just recently started using it. It seems ok. I am apprehensive because I've had really bad luck with credit cards here, but so far, no problems with the QR.
The process is a bit confusing if you're new to Thai Immigration. Agents do make it easier. As Clive points out, you can do it without an agent. I have heard, one issue with using an agent is that you're kinda stuck using agents after that so it's worth avoiding if possible.
I would recommend coming here on a tourist visa, maybe multiple-entry tourist visa, get to know the place meet some people ask them what they do.
This group is better with specific questions. For more general questions "how do I do a retirement visa" you will get bunches of wrong answers and a few correct answers.
You need to check-in (inform immigration of your location) each time you come into the country. If you stay and a fancy hotel they will do it for you. If you stay at a boutique hotel, AirBnB, with friends, etc, they may not do it for you.
After that you will need to check-in every 90 days. If you are not in-country for 90 days (at a time), you do not need to do a 90-day check-in.
