Hello and thank you for accepting my request. My husband and I are planning to relocate to Thailand by January 2026. We are in our 50s and retiring. All solid advice would be appreciated. Thank you 🪷
There has been lots of posts over the years regarding to the use of "Pink" Thai IDs cards. Here is my experience after 5 or 6 years of use. In my mind it's second class to your passport or "normal" Thai ID, in so much they are used when a greater level of verification is needed, like banks, AIS, LD (land department). However, I have successfully used the pink ID in Hospitals both private and government, doctors, dentists, which is useful if I need to go without thinking about taking my passport, because I leave it at home.
Has anyone in this group on the DTV been able to renew their 2 year driving licence to a 5 year licence at the Phuket transport office?
I have seen people say they were able to do it at some other transport offices but I haven't seen anyone say it about Phuket yet. I will go to the office and ask but first I thought I would just check if anyone in this group has done it. Thanks Gump 🐒
How I can request a residence certificate in Thailand (commonly used for visa, driving license, or banking purposes), along with the documents required, steps, and how long it takes?
Does anyone know if the Land Transport Office in Chiang Mai still issues 5 year licenses for DTV holders? I am already on my second 2 year driving license.
I read some reports that they do, but I don't want to fly to Chiang Mai for nothing. Trat DLT does not issue 5 year licenses for DTV holders
When l applied for a certificate of residence at Division 1 in Bangkok the form asked what it was for giving 4 options driving license for a car or motorbike and to buy or sell a car or a motorbike. I ticked all 4 as l want both licences and to buy a car and a motorbike. I had such a carry on at immigration they went through my 1 year lease contract with a fine toothcombe and after 4 revisits to the desk with corrections l finally got 4 seperate letters of residence but only valid for 30 days each and l was charged 800 thb 200 for each one. My question is: is this normal and is there a certificate of residence that covers your address for the period of the lease that l can get instead of having to apply every 30 days for new ones to cover other purposes?
