Can I use a single entry volunteer visa for re-entry permits in Thailand?

My volunteer visa will expire in the next couple of months. I am looking to renew.

My current volunteer visa is multiple entree. Did not do me any good. I talked to the visa agent and she told me I should get a single entree to save a few baht.

I think I may go back to my home country for a month sometime in the next year.

Can I do re-entry permits with single entry? Or is it null and void once I leave?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on renewing their volunteer visa, specifically transitioning from a multiple entry to a single entry visa. They inquire about the possibility of obtaining re-entry permits with a single entry visa, noting plans to return to their home country. The discussion reveals that re-entry stamps can be purchased before leaving Thailand, and there are suggestions about consulting reliable visa servicing agencies and the cost differences between agents and immigration offices.

Hello guys, any recommendations for a reliable and reasonable Visa servicing agency in bangkok please? Thanks.

I would bet dollars to durian that you don't have ANY visa at all

I think IF you read your stamp you'd see that you have a yearly "extension of stay" and then a multiple reentry permit as well

AND

If you're going to get another volunteer visa extension don't even bother getting a re-entry permit when they get the visa extension. It's not gonna save you that much though. Most agents charge 200baht more than the re-entry permits sell for at the immigration office (which is 1000baht for a single entry and 3800baht for a multiple entry).

I'd say just get the yearly extension from them and IF you travel buy the re-entry permit at the airport before you leave (ALL the international airports sell them if you're flying out that day)

How long is a re-entry permit good for? Can I get one for 2 or 3 months?

It's good until your extension runs out. The re-entry permit itself doesn't have an expiration date, it just means your existing extension will not be immediately invalid when you leave the country.

Thanks Tod. I assume you are right about extension vs actual visa.. I wasn't sure if re-entry permit visa multiple entry accomplish the same thing or if I wasn't allowed re-entry if I had extension to stay.

Automatic Covid extension. It will last a lot longer

You can buy re entry stamps at airport or at immigration before leaving country.
