How long does it currently take to renew a US passport at the Embassy in Bangkok?
Has anybody renewed there passport with the US Embassy Bangkok, lately?
It's been about 5 years for me since the last time I got a new passport with the embassy.. Back then a person had to make an appointment, show up, then about 2 weeks after the appointment I received my passport.
From what I understand, things have changed some.
How long does it take these days?
Is it all done by mail?
My current visa stamp expires in about 30 days and I have only one empty page left.
UPDATE:
I put the paperwork in the mail on the 3rd and got the passport on the 18th. It's a bit of a pain because you have to go to 3 sites altogether. 1) Passport replacement page, 2) Order and pay for return postage to you, 3) Pay for the passport.
The rest of it's easy.

Answer summary
The process for renewing a US passport at the US Embassy in Bangkok has changed and is now predominantly done by mail, taking between 2 to 5 weeks for processing, based on user experiences. Some users report turnaround times as short as 11 days, especially if expedited processing is requested due to visa or travel concerns. It is advisable to plan ahead and submit renewal applications well in advance of visa expiration. For immediate needs, a temporary passport option is available for expedited situations.

In principle, new passport applications have to be done by mail. Check the embassy website for the procedures required. Generally, it will take four or five weeks to receive the new one and during that time you will be without a passport/

You can also go into the Embassy tell them you leave soon and they can do a same day like 5 page passport called a Temporary Passport, if that helps.

I’m wondering how does a 10 year passport get used up in 5 years. Does Thai immigration place that many stamps?

Done by mail. I sent mine in December 23rd and I got it back on January 5th. Over 2 holidays. On the application, you can state that your visa is expiring in X days and they will expedite.

Poor planning. I woul have gone for a renewal 6 months before expiration and get a new passport with 6 blanks left.

there's nothing better than seeing someone asking for help and advice only to be berated by a complete stranger who offers no help or advice. It gets better when they later reply with an abusive and insulting comment trying to aggregate and agitate the OP. So clever and well thought out. Now please go back to your bongo drums and leave the grown ups alone or better still leave this group as your comments are not welcome.

Between 2-5 weeks based on recent reports I've read on here. All done by mail.
