TLDR : Answer Summary
For U.S. passport holders looking to obtain a Thai tourist visa in Myanmar, the Thai consulate in Yangon is recommended for a single entry tourist visa. It's advised to fly with Air Asia to optimize travel time, allowing you to submit your visa application shortly after arriving. An e-visa for Myanmar can be obtained online for $50 USD, and you'll need proof of onward travel, a hotel booking, and occasionally proof of funds. Note that the Thai consulate only accepts U.S. dollars in pristine condition.

The thai consulate in Yangon is an excellent place to go for a single entry tourist visa.
Air asia has killer time points where you can fly from bangkok and get there early enough to go straight from the airport to the thai consulate to turn in your paperwork, and the next afternoon you can go get your passport and go straight back to the airport to catch a flight back to thailand in the early evening.
You get the E-visa for burma online for $50USD before you go.
You do need proof of onward travel a hotel booking and sometimes proof of funds.
Be advised the thai consulate there ONLY takes US Dollars in pristine condition ;) .
