Usually my buddy would go through an agent but this time they have decided to DIY visa.
They arrived in Thailand on a tourist visa. Went to immigration with all necessary paperwork and got a retirement visa (90 days). They now need to get their 1 year extension.
How long does it take to get the the extension? They drop-off their passport with all the paperwork, when can they get their passport back with the 1 year extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The time it takes to receive a one-year extension for a retirement visa in Thailand varies, but several comments from users suggest it can be fairly quick. Typically, if all paperwork is in order, the extension may be granted the same day, often within 20 minutes to an hour. However, in some locations, a follow-up may be necessary where you pick up the passport the next day. Some users also mentioned that an 'under consideration' stamp may be issued, which requires the applicant to return on a specified date.

I recently got my one year extension and I think it took about 20 minutes. That was in Udon Thani but the previous year I had it done in Phuket and I had to come back the following day to pick up my passport with the visa.
Might get an under consideration stamp with a date to come back. Immigration won’t keep your passport when under consideration just go back on the date they stamp in your passport. They may also do a house visit to see you are actually living where you say.
