TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Thai Tourist Visa, there is uncertainty about whether the onward travel ticket needs to be within 60 days or 90 days, especially considering the option of a visa extension. Various comments suggest that while some consulates may accept reservations for up to 90 days, it may be safer to have a ticket showing departure within 60 days due to potential scrutiny by immigration officials. It's also mentioned that one can reserve a flight ticket for a fee, which can be a practical solution for satisfying consulate requirements.

Immigration might ask to see one within 60 days, right?

I had a reservation for just before the 60 days was up. Technically, the extension is not guaranteed so it would make sense to have one on or before the 60 days is up.

You can always buy a ticket for within 60 days, then change your departure date afterwards

The consulate usually doesn't care however there was a report in burma where the person applying for a tourist visa had to show a ticket out within 60 days.

The last time I went to Kuala Lumpur I presented a flight in 90 days and I had no problem.

For 600 baht you can buy a reservation for any flights, any dates. Just reservations, no flights.
But more than enough for Thai Consulates.
Pm if interested

I have this question. I intend to extend and would prefer buying a ticket before the 90 days is over. Do we have confirmation of which consulates?

Within 60 days is better. Some Consulates accept reservation within 90 days
