This is regarding what is the way to get the lowest cost of transferring from an non-Thai to Thai bank account:

Last night I paid Western Union INR 840,000 which gave me TBH 312,153 (INR 785,101) — that is a difference of INR 54,899 which is a cost of 6.54%.

My question is what method of transferring money into a Thai bank account costs equal to or less than 3%? 6.54% is high, isn’t it? What is the lowest percentage anyone has paid for transferring and what method did you use?

Conversion rate was taken from Google.

Thanks in advance.

Is it easy to change 500 euro banknotes in Bangkok? Notes are looking clean and fine, just curious if they accept.

Hello. What is cheapest way to transfer funds to a Thai bank account? I was charged $250 to transfer $6,000 the last time. Is this normal? What is the cheapest way? TIA.

Does anyone know the best way to move money from the us to Thailand. I used the atm but their exchange rate sucks. Wired money to my Thai bank account and that exchange rate cost me 2000baht on a 1,000 us deposit, worse than ATM

not sure what’s up with the exchange rate but my dtv visa was a $400 USD (฿14K+), not ฿10,000. the receipt doesn’t itemize any additional fees so i’m assuming that’s the true fee. curious what others paid.

I have a couple questions about banking and the 800k deposit thing.

I read on the net that it is best to do the transfer from my USA bank in Thai baht, not dollars. Problem is, my bank does not offer the Thai baht as an option from its list of available currencies.

I contacted them and they said they only send dollars to Thailand.

Anybody have any idea about how much actual money I would lose by sending dollars to my Bangkok Bank instead of baht?

I had checked on sending it using Wise, but the fees for that amount is nuts.

Any info or advice is appreciated!

Thx!

So, would you agree that WISE is the wiser choice to transfer money to the Thai bank account? I compared the final outcome (including exchange rate and fees) and it seems to be the best option.

Anyone with 50+ visa? does money held at local bank can be in foreign currency (Eur/$)? or must it be converted to BHT? Tnx

update from responses

its possible to have a foreign currency account balance shown to immigration, to qualify the requirements.

some responses indicated that it depends in the immigration policy of the specific region, so best is to check with them.

oh, and, perhaps, if the exchange rate changes this could lead to not stand in the needed amount, so such choice needs attention.

one last thing is that only Bangkok bank and KBank allow foreign currency account...

good day everyone and thank you to those who contributed useful information from personal experience.
