I currently have a Non-O Visa,

I deposited 800,000Baht into Bangkok bank a while ago, Bank says (new bank rule), they have to lock up the 800,000 for 4 months, that's when I first applied for the NON-O visa.

To apply for the NON O visa, bank gave me a letter saying I had 800,000 in bank.

fast forward 3 months, Today I'm starting to prepare my documentation for immigration.

They say, BANK, they cannot give me a bank letter saying I have greater than 800,000 baht in bank. They updated my Bank Book, it says I have over 800,000baht in my account.

Their reason, I have only, let's say, 80,000baht available.

however, at the bottom of the page, it says 800,000 is locked up.

Infront of me, they phoned immigration and asked if they will accept it, Answer was a NO

their solution was, send another 800,000baht to my account, then the account will say I have over 800,000baht

They wouldn't even give me the letter, the one that say that I have 80,000 available, with the sub text saying 800,000 is locked up for 4 months.

However, I can take a photo of it and show immigration, and if immigration say its ok, then I return to the bank, and they will give me a copy.

my head is spinning

Have I done something wrong?

This application process isn't my first in Chiang Mai, have done the process twice before, where I have let the visa expire as I was living elsewhere. No problems with bank letters in the past

Hey some changes coming to WISE

- you can now link your Thai bank account to wise

- you can now order a wise card sent to you in thailand

- they are now fixing / adding Scan pay - Prompt Pay to wise

However in may you can NOT use wise card to withdraw cash from ATM anymore inside thailand

Regulatory changes made by Bank of Thailand

I suggest reading the link to become familiar with the changes

From my understanding this is for accounts registered in thailand accounts registered else where may not be affected this will be interesting to see either way

Does anyone know of any banks in Bangkok that doesn’t require certificate of residence ? I’m here on a Non-immig -O 90 day visa. I know Chiang Mai doesn’t require it. Thanks!

Just been applying for an Extension of Stay (based on Retirement) and hit an issue that I think could impact a lot of people.

I use the 65k per month route, and I use Wise for the transfers from UK to Thailand, and I have never had any issues previously. However, the IO told me that I had failed to make the required transfers, and so refused my application. I always transfer well above the 65k (I usually transfer between 150k and 230k per month). On closer examination, it turned out that all of the transfers prior to and including August were fine. But from Aug 31st onwards, all of my transfers were showing as domestic transfers. After consulting with my bank (SCB) and Wise, it turns out that from Sept 1st they had changed partners and had started using Kasinkorn, who receive the transfers and then remit them onto the required bank, and they do this using 'Channel Code' ENET (Domestic Transfer) whereas the previous partner had remitted them with Channel Code RIS (International). So, for anyone using Wise, I suggest you review your transfers quickly and if you find they are being marked as ENET then you have a problem.

I have flagged the issue to Wise, who initially did not want to know, and just kept directing me to take it up with Kasinkorn, I had to remind them that I have no relationship with Kasinkorn, much less an account, so I would be nothing to them. I reminded Wise that they have the relationship with Kasinkorn, who they have chosen as their partner, and they need to take it up with them as this could affect thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of Wise customers in Thailand. They are now 'looking into it', so I am assuming that the more of you that also contact Wise re this, the more likely they are to fix it.

I assume if you are a Kasinkorn customer using Wise, then it might be OK as I assume they will show such transfers as Inetrnational not Domestic, but be interested in any of you check this and let us know on here.

Meantime, I am looking at a workaround using Wise 'Transfer Receipts' and once I have tried this workaround with Immigration I will update here. One thing I have found though is that the Wise Transfer Receipts seem to change content and format frequently, which is a bit of a concern.

Anyway, thought it best to let you guys out there know about this !

Merry Bloody Xmas ...

I had many comments on my last post that Kasikorn bank was the easiest to set up account. I just left there because my wife (who has dementia and who won’t even be on the account couldn’t sign her name exactly the same on 3 documents. Again, she won’t even be on the account. Going to try SCB bank. I guess Kasikorn doesn’t want my money.

well after all the restless, sleepless nights stressed out about getting a bank account, I arrived in Thailand on the 2 ND December, immigration the next day very helpful people, explained it all for my extension of stay, the 4th of December got up early with a bit of nerves as it was bank account day, this could not have been easier, 2 bank accounts in about an hour, very easy, the hardest thing was getting my profile photo, and trying to sign my name the same twice, lol, anybody starting to go through the same just don't worry, have the right paperwork and visa and it's a doddle,
