I talked with several people that said they wont be coming to Thailand because of the Thaipass system. I am certainly considering alternatives.
It is not longer covid that prevents the tourist industry from rebound.
+$300 PCR tests, $200 Insurance (I think its a scam), +300 fly through phuket, +$700 hotel+transportation (sandbox) => $1500 extra to come to Thailand. In addition traveler has to get ThaiPass approval, which means they risk the total cost of the trip ($3,000-$4,000). It is no surprise people are not in a hurry to come here.
There are some portable hotspot I think you can rent. For a couple of hundred dollars you can by an older quality phone, which will have share-internet option (mobile hotspot). Maybe
I tried to book direct with a hotel paying with mastercard. The hotel was unable to process my card because of the fraud protection. I ended up booking through agoda.
In the past I have made reservations through Agoda and Orbitz and the hotel is notified of the reservation within minutes.
I was under the impression Thaipass required noncancellable reservations. I think they may verify.. but I am not 100% sure.
