I’m considering the ED vs the DTV. My husband and I both want to learn Thai, but I also intend to work my remote job (I’m an independent mental health practitioner with a virtual practice). I’m reading that I would not be ALLOWED to work, even remotely, if I chose the ED route. The intention with choosing the ED route is to extend the total time we are able to stay…I would pick up the DTV after my ED is completed and my husband would come as my dependent. What problems or issues would you foresee? What advice would you offer? And is this something I should attempt to navigate without any professional guidance from someone who practices immigration law here in the USA? Side note to add, I’m planning for the future, not an immediate move. I’m also hoping that you guys can offer some advice on locations we should visit when we come as tourists (for 2 weeks or so) that would help us determine the area we want to focus on to settle in. We will be prioritizing safety, amenities, affordability and proximity to a school and an embassy or immigration office for future business.

🏦 Bank Update: Just saw this when I walked into Krungsri to have them activate my mobile banking app on my new phone. As of February 9, 2024, they no longer open accounts for these types of visas:

1. Tourist

2. Free Visa

3. DTV

4. ED (except 4 years at a University and International School).

I'm so lucky my landlord helped me open an account years ago. 🙏💳📃

Since I'm a Tunisian citizen my passport doesn't allow me to stay in Thailand for more than 15 days and I have to apply for a Visa in the immigration when I arrived to Thailand.

Is the ED Visa can allow me to come before I start my class? Cuz I'm applying for Visa Online

😊

Asking for a sanity check on my visa plan please?

My wife and I, both on a UK passport, and we both are currently on an ED visa having originally arrived on the visa exempt scheme. As soon as we got our ED Visa, I opened a Thai Bank account, and have been depositing 70,000 Baht per month. The plan is: - once our ED visas expires, we each apply for OA visa in Thailand, I believe this will not require monetary proof at this point? Then when it comes to the extension after 3 months, I will have over 12 months records of bank international deposits, so I will apply for an extension on this basis, and my wife’s extension will be on the basis of “Dependency”.

Does this seem do-able?
