I’m under 50 and planning to stay in Thailand long-term. I hold dual citizenship and have entered using different passports—once on one, then twice more on the other for visa runs. During my most recent (third) entry using the same passport, immigration questioned me about my previous 58-day stay and discovered I’m a dual citizen. Fortunately, I had an outbound ticket and was allowed to enter.

However, I’m now concerned about what might happen the next time I return, and I’m looking for a legal, long-term visa option. Ideally, I’d like something cost-effective, as I don’t want to spend a lot just to maintain a visa.

Once in awhile I see posts about people wanting to move their whole family with kids to Thailand on short term visas: Ed/DTV. I don’t know much about DTV because it’s new, but a word of caution on ED visa. I don’t know if it’s assumptions or misinformation but ED visa is not a guarantee one yr visa. You will be evaluated every 90 days, and legitimate schools will need you to attend, if you miss more than a certain amount of classes, your visa will be canceled. I personally know people who have been questioned by immigration for leaving the country during their school year, for being too old to learn Thai…some had their visas denied…I know living in Thailand is a dream for many, but please please make sure you understand the consequences if you don’t have a long term visa. It’s one thing to wing it as a nomad but it’s so stressful if you try to wing it with your family and kids…not to mention quite irresponsible. 🥺

For the few people who think this makes me the immigration police or act as I have a high moral ground. I feel so sad and sorry for you. This is simply a word of caution for other fellow humans. I have a long term visa so this doesn’t concern me personally, but it’s not hard to imagine the distress of being told you can’t come back, that you only have a week to move your new life and all your possessions out of the country you thought would be home…last year I had to take care of classmate’s dog because she was denied entry and didn’t know when she could come back…This is not moral superiority, by the way it’s actually a compliment coming from those with no morals…This just means I have a heart and empathy. So what does it make you when you insult me with all kinds of names and told me I shouldn’t care…I think the answer is clear.

Hi all.

I need some assistance in applying for a DTV visa.

Me and my husband is from S.A and he work in Thailand as a teacher.

I have a Ed visa study Thai but it ends now and I have to get another visa.

He's school don't assist with a letter to follow him on Non O Visa and I know to run borders with a tourist visa will also just be temp and short term so I was looking into a DTV visa.

I applied for Preply but not active yet but like to start to working online with DTV visa

My question is.. If I don't have a proof of income now will Thai Immigrations approve my registration?

I also notice they request a registred buss documents. Will Preply approved assist on application?

I notice the amout of 600 000 THB saving in 6 months bank statements and its not the problem.Only my recent income and registration.

Any advise will be so much appreciated.

Thank you🧘‍♀️

Hi all,

I have 2 questions:

1: Im currently on an ED Visa, which runs out end of Juli. Does that influence. my application procedure?

2: My bank account does not have the required 500K baht for 3 months (only 2) does this matter?

3: I read this on a thai embassy website: **All supporting materials that are issued outside of Thailand and the US must be accompanied by certified English translations and notarized by an Embassy/Consulate or Ministry of Foreign Affairs only*

^ does anybody know the specifics on this?

I'm looking to see if anyone has a similar history to me and has any advice about getting a DTV.

I have been in Thailand since mid 2022 - I started on a 6 month METV, then went to an ED Visa for a year, followed by another ED Visa, the second of which was less educational than the first.

Has anyone with a similar history had issue getting a DTV and would you recommend using an agent? I've seen first hand the pull agents have with officials in country, but I am not sure about at embassies abroad. I'd be looking at the Soft Power route as unfortunately I'm not over 50 and my income comes from a vet pension.

I recently relocated from Krabi -> CM. I went to CM immigration today to extend my tourist visa. But they would not extend it because my 'expired' ED visa issued in Krabi was not 'canceled'. This is the first time I've experienced this. In the past, I can't recall having to cancel long term visas. I thought they just expired and I leave the country. Lesson learned I guess.

I would like to know what is most advisable:

a) attempt to leave the country tonight / tomorrow morning and return.

b) fly to Krabi on Monday morning and overstay 3 days

Thank you.

It helps to answer interview in Thai 💕 officer will be nicer 💕 first applied last year in my home country, confident with bank account n yearly income but was met with (we don't have bilateral agreements with Thai govt so we don't know what to charge)

So to rush to get in I did ED visa which helped me to learn Thai เรียนภาษาไทย but 😩 unable to travel out. So I took the plunge & one way ticket out. Lesson learnt to check on bank holidays it was a grueling 18 days wait with just an appointment date. But I think 2 points to learn from this

1) Glad I got an agent, pay 100USD to save on headache, help me check on docs & even advise me retaking photo showing my ears and no teeth to prevent rejection. They help to push along documents.

2) Sometimes you just have to push through, follow instructions, be there early not on time, before office opens (everyone had appointment at 9.30am) what a cute arrangement 😂 just persevere. Be prepared for the weather (correction : thks for helping below, so I be sure not to miss deadline reporting save fine money 😊)
