I was not able to use my Blue Cross insurance either.
Currently its 20,000. It used to be 50,000 but that's kinda a recent change.
The point your missing. The insurance is not about paying bills if a person requires medical treatment. Insurance is a kick-back program where insurance companies pay the right officials to make the policy. If Kaiser is not kicking back, its not a valid policy .
I bought mine while I was in Mexico. I claimed that I had been in the US. I only transited US for 36 hours. Nobody really looks. I think the larger concern is if you need to make a claim. I would look to see if there is a price difference to make an informed decision.
When I was in your situation, options being: marry, study, work, elite. I found it cheaper to do visa runs than elite visa. I mean quality visa runs, 2 weeks Vietnam, 2 Weeks Australia (at the time they were offering Americans METV), 2 Bali, etc.
Studying will likely be a time commitment. You will likely have to take a test at immigration to verify that you are learning.
Looking at the requirements for the STV, I found it to be too much of a pain in the ass. I figured I would do the tourist visa, see what options were available after the extension. Either leave Thailand or visa runs. I love Thailand but the immigration/visa/ThaiPass nonsense is too much considering there are many places not doing that.
I had several issues doing Phuket sandbox (not the same thing). Two things I would have done differently. Booked direct through the hotel (not Agoda or other), used a hotel that others have used with positive experiences.
My hotel's website would accept my credit card because it was not capable of handling fraud protection. I have stayed at that hotel several times, but this is the first time I used them for SHA+. They advertised they are capable but when it came time to do it, they seemed clueless.
Soon the better. There are issues will applying and then the registration gets lost, then a week later the registration gets found so you will want to be patient waiting for approval. Avoid re-applying when the status is "registration not found".
I would recommend using a hotel that comes recommended, that someone said they had a positive experience. The hotel I used sucked. Maybe not their fault, we'll never know but I wouldn't do it again.
