Attention:

Immigration holidays for July:

ALL immigration offices in thailand will be closed the following days

Thursday 10th July

Friday 11th July

Monday 28th July

If your stamp expires on a day the immigration office is closed (weekends or holidays) and you go the very next day they're open you can get your extension like normal and will not be charged for overstay. But expect long lines.

I’m seeking advice or insights from anyone who may have gone through a similar situation.

I’ve been living and working in Thailand for the past 17 years as a university instructor. I’m a U.S. citizen and have held a valid work permit and visa throughout my time here.

Recently, I officially obtained Thai citizenship through my mother, who is Thai by birth. I now have my Thai National ID card and have submitted all necessary documents to my workplace so that my employment records are now under my Thai ID instead of my U.S. passport.

Here’s where I’m unsure:

My current work permit and visa (issued under my U.S. passport) are valid until October 2025. I asked my employer what I need to do about closing or canceling them, and they told me I don’t need to do anything—that I should just let them expire since I’m now legally Thai.

That doesn’t sound quite right to me. I feel like there should be some formal process to close out the old visa and work permit under my foreign passport. I’m worried that “doing nothing” might leave a loose end or even a negative mark in the immigration system, especially if I ever need to re-enter Thailand in the future using my U.S. passport (just hypothetically).

Has anyone here been through this process or have advice on what steps I should take? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have a TR multi entry visa that is good through July 2025 (Given by U.S. embassy as a consolation prize instead of the DTV I paid for).

Is this a firm expiration date, or does it renew for six months each time I enter Thailand? I have read that some other types of visa can work this way. Thanks

Non B Visa expires 31 August. Company says have to follow them to immigration to cancel work permit and Visa?

Why is there a need to cancel the Visa beforehand if the Visa expires 31 August anyway? Do Visas expire naturally or they don't?

Hi everyone!

I got approved in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam last week! ✅

I submitted on March 30th, the evening when I arrived to Vietnam. Got requested additional documents on April 1st (Missing 6 month statement from my Wise account)

It went on pending approval on April 8th.

Due to personal reasons, I decided to board on my flight back to Thailand on April 9th while my visa status was still pending — and then I received the approval on April 16th!

Now I’m wondering: once the visa is approved, how long do you have before you *need* to ente Thailand and “activate” it / aka get the stamp in your passport?

I'm currently here on a tourist visa (only the second stamp in my passport) and planning to go to Europe for 5 weeks on March 22nd. I’d ideally enter Thailand again on July 1st, which would be about 1.5 months after the visa was approved.

SO MY QUESTION IS:

👉 Is there an expiration or time limit on when you need to enter the country after visa approval?

Would love to hear from anyone who’s had a similar experience or knows more infos about this.

Thank you so much in advance 💛

I am so grateful for this group that helped me to get all the documents for this process ready!

Hello everyone, I’d like to ask about the expiration date of a DTV visa application. Does it have an expiration date? The embassy is currently requesting additional documents, but I haven’t been able to get in touch with the document owner yet.

Thank you

Good evening. Happy Songkran to everyone.

My inquiry is regarding workpermit cancelation & current visa status. My employer terminate my work contract on 31st March and cancel my work-permit while I am away for my holidays in my country. My current visa on my passport will be expired on 30th April and before leaving TH I purchased my re-entry permit stamp which will be expired on the same date of visa stamp.

Question is, right now with the current status am I able to return to TH using my existing visa on passport or It has been cancelled since the day my WP has been cancelled.

Note : New employer about to process my new work-permit. So they want me to return before the expiry date and for the visa processing. But not sure my current visa is still eligible to enter TH or not.

Thank you in advance 🙏
