Will a proof of recovery letter from a lateral flow test be accepted in Thailand's quarantine hotels?

Hi everyone,

I’m due to fly to Thailand at the end of this month and I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the quarantine hotels and hospitals regarding proof of recovery letters. I contracted covid in January but I only took a lateral flow test at the time rather than a PCR so I can’t get a proof of recovery from the NHS website. Medicspot do proof of recovery letters with proof of a positive lateral flow test however I was just wondering how likely it is that any hospitals/covid hotels will accept it should I test positive since it’s not based off the result of a PCR test? Does anyone have any experience of this? Please let me know if anyone’s had a similar problem before.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about whether hotels and hospitals in Thailand will accept a proof of recovery letter based on a positive lateral flow test, since they were unable to obtain a PCR test confirmation from the NHS after recovering from COVID-19. Several commenters share their experiences, indicating that acceptance may vary and can depend on specific hotels' partnerships with hospitals. It is suggested to contact the hotel directly for confirmation, and one user reports success with a similar situation using their recovery certificate. The general consensus is that while there may be some discretion involved, recovery letters may be accepted if associated hospitals are lenient.

Sam, how did you get on with the certificate.? I can't see anything on medicspot website they issue certs? How many days after test did they issue? I too never uploaded onto NHS and had a private test done on the 8th.

Thanks mate. I got one from Medconsultant in the end and didn't need it as tested negative anyway. Glad I paid for one though 👍

I had Covid in January( 25th) isolated then went and got a certificate of recovery on the 1st February, tested negative to a PCR test at Brisbane Airport on the 3rd February flew to Phuket on the 4th, the PCR test at the airport came up positive, received the result at 2am on the 5th, produced my Certificate of recovery and after authentication it was accepted and I was set free at 11:20 am on Saturday 5th February 🙏👍😊

Thanks! Should hopefully be alright then. Did your certificate of recovery say you tested positive from a PCR test or a lateral flow?

Nice one! Thanks so much! Should be fine with my certificate then. Thanks for all your help!

This was the wording, sorry about the poor quality, its 12:23 am here in Australia and I am in bed.

it just said I had recovered from Covid, it did not mention a PCR test or lateral flow, I got the impression that the manager and Thai authorities were looking for a reason to let me off and the certificate got them and me off the hook,

If you test positive and have a recovery letter, it's at the discretion of the doctor at the partner hospital to your entry hotel.

Thanks! Hopefully they’ll accept a lateral flow certificate then 🤞

I've you're really worried I would check with the hotels you are thinking about booking and make sure they aren't partnered with some of the hospitals that Greg calls out in his post.

Called up the hotel today and they said it should be fine with a LF certificate so hopefully it’s all good. Partnered with Piyavate hospital so should be fine. Thanks so much for your help!

In Thailand, you probably could just make your own. Its all the other governments and airlines between here and your country.

When I donated blood, they need my often b3cause I’m O-. They ran an antibodies test and I clearly have them because I had Covid Jan 2020. I have proof along with my Hospital stay in BKK. Good luck!!!

If you were diagnosed with covid by NHS test, and have recovered why can't they give you proof?

They said that I had to have had a positive NHS PCR test to be able to be issued with a certificate. Foolishly without thinking about future travel implications when I tested positive on a lateral flow test I thought I didn’t need to do a PCR test since I already had covid symptoms so should just self isolate until I recover

@Sam ******
I'd get a pcr test done. See if it still shows you're positive. Maybe someone else can suggest a solution.

Thanks! Hopefully I’ll find a solution. The government announced on 12th January that a positive lateral flow no longer needs to be followed up with a with a PCR test to confirm that you had covid so at the time it didn’t make sense to get tested
Lynnette *******
@Sam ******
yes. But it does pose problems for travellers. No one officially knows you had covid. . So a recovery certificate might not be possible.

@Sam ******
testing positive on lateral flow usually requires you to confirm with a pcr. If you didnt then you don't actually know, officially, if you had covid do you?
