TLDR : Answer Summary
The user should apply for the Thailand Pass at least 60 days before their arrival on April 1st. Comments suggest applying as soon as possible to avoid delays, as some applicants have experienced lengthy approval times. The official Thailand Pass link is https://tp.consular.go.th/.

I recommend doing that sooner than later. Some people get approved in hours, other people it had taken weeks. I was approved in 3 weeks.

I recommend you ask for a hotel recommendation within this group. A hotel people have had good experiences with. I think part of the slow turn around with the Thail Pass is that hotel didn't know what they are doing.

I also arrive on April 1st. I requested my thai pass last week and got the approval 5 days later. I suggest you hurry up and request it as soon as you book your hotel and insurance.

Soon the better. There are issues will applying and then the registration gets lost, then a week later the registration gets found so you will want to be patient waiting for approval. Avoid re-applying when the status is "registration not found".

I would recommend using a hotel that comes recommended, that someone said they had a positive experience. The hotel I used sucked. Maybe not their fault, we'll never know but I wouldn't do it again.

so I have a limited list of hotels to choose from? I am planning to stay at my usual serviced apartment complex. Would I have to first do a day at some approved covid test waiting hotel?

I believe the limit is 60 days so you’re well within that. Apply now.
