I live in the north and at a relatively low socio economic level. Most of the stuff in my world is run by the seat of the pants- which I am perfectly happy with. There are times when things chaff, but you sort it out. What bothers me here is I had brought up some ideas about something, I forget what, and said "maybe we could have a lawyer think of a good way to do it' and the guy said "whoa lawyers? We are very informal here and don't use them" and then came with a very one sided western style lease- only in Thai. Just puts a very sour taste in my mouth. On the other hand we bonded with the owner quite well, but the agent is a cousin so no chance of firing him.

the agent in question (although frankly most of them are) is pretty gross. I think this is a generic western lease he got off the internet. The whole thing has been a hot mess, but after having two places get rented out from under us I wanted to get it locked in

My wife and I have had mixed luck with this SORT of thing. I suggest you try in Bangkok first and maybe save the trip. Failing that, use it as an excuse to go on holiday to Roi Et. We had, for part of our marriage process, province 1 send us to province 2, province 2 send us to province 3, province 3 insist they couldn't do it, then province 1 did it.
