What services allow you to create multi-city flights while ensuring a seamless baggage check-in?

I am sick of flights that are "preassembled" (I don't know the right word) by aggregators. I am willing to pay a bit more to buy one ticket and not need to recheck my bags at every stop. Further, I would like to be able to build in a fun day with a long layover in BKK. Are there any sites or services that let you choose all the legs and then buy it as a complete ticket?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses frustrations with fragmented flight bookings and seeks advice on how to book multi-city flights that allow for an enjoyable layover without the hassle of rechecking bags. Various commenters suggest using services like Google Flights, Kayak, and Skyscanner for booking direct with airlines, particularly those that allow for multi-city options or have codeshare agreements. It is emphasized that booking directly with one airline and ensuring all legs are part of the same ticket can avoid rechecking luggage and enhance travel convenience.

You know what I always do?

I call my travel agency and let them do this job. I'm willing to pay a bit more but don't waste time searching all over the Internet.

Recheck bags at every stop? Huh?

Do you walk out of the Airport with your bags at every stop?

If you want a fun day or two in Bangkok, try searching on multi-stop trips. I just had the craziest experience.

I was in Tokyo, but I live in Bangkok. I tried to book an unexpected flight to the States, since I was nearly halfway there. A non-stop cost nearly $2K.

I then looked from BKK…$850 with a stop in Tokyo. 🤔. I then searched with a one-week stop in Tokyo…$650. Guess which one I am doing. 🤣🤣🤣 in all cases, that flight to the States was the exact same one.

In other words, you might be able to make your stop in Bangkok for as cheap or cheaper and enjoy the day as long as you book at the same time.

Btw, I often use Skyscanner, but for this trip it was Google Flights. I always check both plus the carrier’s site. I prefer to book directly if possible. Third-party tickets can create issues should a problem arise.

I use Travelstart, give many flight options

Click multi city on apps like sky scanner, then on can add the flights you want.

Book direct with the airline or if you use an site like cheap flights, make sure all segments are with a code share airlines , then when you first check in the airline cba check you bag a the way through. If you use 2 different airlines that are not part of the same group the 1st airline will not be able to check.your luggage onto the next flight.

If you want to do a long layover book using multi city, it is very easy to have a night stop.over then carry on, I do this all the time.

I use kayak, make sure it doesn't say self transfer anywhere and set a long layover. Then book it with whatever airline has that option at the best price directly.

Emirates.

Kayak will clearly indicate which flights are not through tickets, and you can set the stopover. I think nearly all the sites allow this.

Just fly DIRECT. No 'stop overs'. I think you may have a misunderstanding of how airlines routes are flown, or how to search and buy flights. What was the last flights / routes your bought and travelled .?

Have you toggled with options/settings on your search app.

I use skyscanner, since discover it maybe 15 years ago, nothing has beaten it.

Try skyscanner, chose 'DIRECT FLIGHTS ONLY'

a bit rood I think why do you think this person doesn’t know what they are doing, I’ve been booking flights for business and personal travel for 40 years and the Thai airline sites are crap. Get a life

ok, I understand your predicament more now. Of course you are being a little demanding with Chiang RAI, as I would think Chiang Mai has flights in from more departure cities/countries. So as someone else mentioned - codeshares. As example you fly London Heathrow to Chiang Mai, but with a changeover in BKK. The last leg of the journey, BKK to Chiang mai will be flown by thai Airways, usually with a thai Airways plane/staff. But you'll have a single ticket and won't need to collect/deposit bags at all.

Or am I missing your point entirely ?

Finally, go hand luggage only if possible. That will change your life.

Codeshares my friend - look for a Star Alliance or One World airline and most likely they will codeshare with partner airlines - if you can find that you will indeed have one ticket and one checkin for luggage

you can for example book London to Chiang Mai or Ko Samui or Krabi, on one ticket, with Thai Airways. You will stay inside the transit zone at the BKK airport, enter Thailand through a special Immigration counter en route from the international to the domestic terminal, and your baggage gets checked through. Book with the airline directly
