This is a ways off topic and pretty idle. But I thought there might be some folks here with knowledge to comment productively. I was talking a lady the other day (she was not asking for help or money- I am just intrigued) and she had come here to do an Ed visa from Myanmar. Around when she was due back we had both corona and the revolution there... I don't know the details, but she overstayed. It is still not safe to go to Myanmar so she is basically hiding. I was curious if that was needful or if there are programs in place for people in situations like hers.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a woman who overstayed her Ed visa in Thailand due to safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and the political situation in Myanmar. Commenters suggest possible options for her situation, including applying for a COVID-19-related extension that she missed, and the consequences of being caught for overstaying, which could lead to arrest and deportation. They also mention logistical possibilities like crossing the border to Myanmar and the associated fines for overstaying. The topic raises questions about the availability of refugee status and the potential for exploitation should she seek employment.

There's a lot of border. I hear that they just cross the river.

She may get a job, but she will be exploited.

Options: If less then 90 days, she should leave Thailand by one of the land borders (I think it's open for people from Myanmar) and pay the fine. The fine is 500THB a day.

If it's greater then 90 days, and she believes her life may be in danger, she can try being a refugee (I doubt it'll be successful though).

Moonlight river crossings are reasonably priced.

I suspect it is not safe to go back yet.

She could've applied for unable to travel due to Covid extension, but she didn't. That was her option but she didn't use it and now if she's caught she will be arrested, deported and banned from Thailand.
