This may be a bit of a stretch on the "everything else" front... sorry.

I joined some Thailand business groups and they were 100% crypto hustle garbage so not sure where else to look for this...

Do the Thai businesses like, a specific example, scooter rental run some kind of liability insurance or is it just the wild wild west here? The landscape for this sort of thing in my home country is so bonkers skewed the other way I know my instincts on it all are compromised. Curious how the locals do.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the presence and nature of liability insurance for scooter rental businesses in Thailand. Some commenters mention that established rental places typically include insurance in their rental prices, while smaller 'mom and pop' shops may not offer reliable coverage. The mandatory insurance often provides minimal coverage, leaving renters exposed to potential risks. A participant also emphasizes the importance of adhering to legal requirements, especially for foreigners starting a business in Thailand.

Scooter rentals often only have a the mandatory insurance.

Will only cover up to 30k b

And only for injured persons.

No damage on cars or other scooters covered.

So basically renting a scooter in Thailand is driving with no insurance.

want to help start small business and this is high on the contender list. Will probably sit with a lawyer soon, but pre-thinking about how things actually get done here.

when it comes to business there's the right way and the Thai way. Thais can get away with doing it the Thai way, but as a foreigner you definitely need to do it the right way. Insurance is a must to protect yourself and your business.

Try contacting some established Thai businesses, I'm guessing there must be some kind of public liability insurance, especially for service industries dealing with the general public.

Take my advice.. walk away... if it smells like shit, looks like shit, feels like shit, it's probably shit.

Doesnt matter what country you are in.

Most official looking rental places have insurance included in your rental and the ones that do will mention it on their website.

Mom and pop shops is probably much more iffy.

The last place I rented from didn't even have the registration up to date on the motorcycle.

Also if you don't have the correct driver's license, the insurance is probably not valid even if they have it.
