Backwards but... How long does it usually take for a Thai woman to get a visa to visit the US? What I am seeing so far looks intimidating in terms of requirements- but I didn't see anything about the timeline. I also saw that it is almost a requirement that she show she owns property and have money- but I didn't see anything with like... number figures.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The timeline for a Thai woman to obtain a US visa generally depends on appointment availability, which can be booked out for several months. After securing an interview, a decision is usually made on the spot, with visa issuance possibly taking an additional week. Important factors include demonstrating strong ties to Thailand (such as family, property, and financial stability) to assure the consular officer of intent to return post-visit. While concrete figures on financial requirements aren't public, it's essential to show adequate funding for the trip.

I looked into getting my Ethiopian wife a US visa and was able to go through the process of booking an appointment (which revealed they were fully booked for well over a year in Ethiopia)

like for any country, numbers are not publicly published ,they exist but stay secret . otherwise it would be too easy to reach and match . so they just ask your numbers in subtile way , like checking your and her bank statements for the previous last 3 or 4 or 6 months , then compare compare with the official requirements . from what I know those numbers are quite high.

Firstly how long is a piece of string re length of US visa to be granted. Yes as with other Western countries its a daunting process. Keep at it and good luck

Much easier for you to go Jack. She will have to show deep ties with Thailand and prove without a doubt that she will return to Thailand. It’s also at the discretion of interviewing offer to approve; thus there is no rule book to go by. Evidence of she having money, property, and employment will certainly help the cause.

There are no requirements to own land or have specific sums of money. The main challenge is her convincing the person that conducts the interview that she has sufficient ties to Thailand to return. This can be a lot of things, but demonstrating that she is going for legitimate tourist reasons and that she will not stay is the key. I sent a cover page and some supporting documents for my stay in Thailand, showing that I was on a long term visa, I lived in Thailand full time, I was supporting the trip financially, and that seemed to help. They asked for my proof of long term stay and finances, and that, along with her history of travel around Asia and Europe, seemed to make the difference for my girlfriend’s approval.

Your mileage may vary.

this is exactly what I did and my wife got the tourist visa on the first try, despite her having no job and no property

They need to know that she will be coming back to Thailand

So kids and family will help and a condo or home she owns with a job to come back to

Also she will need to provide evidence that she's got money for her holiday. And if its you that she will be coming to see you will need to provide evidence that you are happy with the arrangement she will be coming to see you and you have money as well

and even meeting all these requirements is no guarantee. Especially if they don’t even look at the documents. That’s what happened to my girlfriend, twice!

do you go to the interview with her or they go alone?

she has to go alone

that's true

It all depends on your luck

So the timeline is when you can get an appointment. Lately they've been fully booked for many months in advance. Once they have the interview they'll receive a decision on the spot and then if approved maybe a week later they get their passport back with the visa inside.
