Hey all. Let’s settle this haha.

Are we allowed to work remotely with a soft power DTV visa?

Currently on a NON-B in Thailand through an employer of record. I would like to change over to DTV, supplying my business owner documents for my entity in Singapore (can’t show freelance income as that would require me to become a freelancer with my own company while I am still in Thailand); has anybody in here been successful just showing Pte Ltd incorporation papers to get approved for DTV? I can also show profit/loss statements etc.

Hi everyone, I am applying for my DTV from Australia.

I own a phone repair shop in Australia which doesn't require me to physically be at the store.

For the part where it asks for your work portfolio, I have attached a copy of my business bank statement to show income coming in.

Has anyone tried this method and has it worked before?

Hi,

I applied for the DTV via the Royal Thai Embassy London. I'm a British citizen, and followed the requirements to the letter (providing for example, my most recent personal bank statement showing the circa £10,000 per month payment from the company I own, with a bank balance that remained comfortably over the published 500k THB thresholds for the entire month, and a fresh (1st December - 1st April) 4 month contract for my US company to provide consulting services to a named end client company, for £40,000).

To my dismay, they have wrote back to me to request "additional documents as follows:

...

• Other request documents: - Please load a copy of your Company House stating your name and position. (please explain if you can not provide this)

• Other request documents: - A recently letter confirming employment/contract details from an employer / contractor / client or company HR stating your position and work role as remotely worker in Thailand (address to Royal Thai Embassy in London) signed by an authorised person.

• Other request documents: - Please upload your E-Ticket of your Flight booking showing your name as passenger , departure date, all flights en route from UK/Ireland/UK territories to Thailand"

The first item sounds reasonable, but I've already told them I own a US LLC, not a UK Ltd (via the application process), so there is no 'Company House stating my name and position'. I can (and will, unless you all suggest I take different approach) provide them with the incorporation documents for my US LLC alongside explaining that this is how things work for businesses incorporated in the US, but this doesn't appear to meet the letter of what they are asking for.

The 'recent[sic] letter confirming employment/contract details...' is the one that's most concerning to me, because I've already provided them what I have, which is a valid B2B contract. I'm not a sole trader and my business to business consulting services are just that - while I do provide much of the relevant service personally, the contract(s) I sign aren't 'personal service', they are for my US company to deliver an ongoing consulting service via whatever means and people I see as necessary and so as the company owner, I don't understand how I'm supposed to respond to this request. My end client is a large entity and I'm not on their payroll so their HR isn't an option. I know this is probably just a misunderstanding, but I can't see a way forward that doesn't involve me effectively writing a letter giving myself authorisation to work from Thailand as the owner of my own company, which seems illogical.

Their last request... is unhelpful for a digital nomad (especially as they haven't even granted the visa yet), but I can work around it.

Thanks all, I do appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Adam

Hello, for the remote workers on DTV what travel insurance are you using if your base is Thailand?

I have been looking at different travel insurance policies but the limit for emergency medical is not high. Eg. Allianze most expensive travel insurance policy is limited to $112K for emergencies. I travel every month for work so looking for a comprehensive policy that covers delays, lost baggage etc, car rental insurance as well as health. Thanks 🙏🏾

Have you heard anything about the fact that if you are an employee, the company you work for remotely from Thailand should pay social security contributions to Thailand?

Are you allowed to do remote work with the "soft power" version of the DTV? Or is there no difference between "workcation" and "soft power" DTV.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone applied for the DTV with a sponsorship letter from their employer instead of having 500,000 THB in their own bank account? My friend is a remote worker, and their employer has offered to provide a sponsorship letter to support the application.

On the official website ([[members only])), it states:

*"Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g., bank statements, sponsorship letter."*

This seems to suggest that sponsorship documents are accepted as financial evidence. Has anyone had success with this? Could it depend on how well-established the sponsoring company is?

Thanks for sharing any experiences or advice!

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to apply in HCMC under workcation. I work for a well known global company based in the US, the business is similar to Agoda. I'm looking for some advice regarding the necessary work documents. I’m concerned about the wording in my company letter regarding "work from home" arrangements. While it mentions working from home, it doesn’t explicitly state that I can work "remotely" but on my employee profile my location is shown as 'REMOTE-USA'.

Additionally, our HR team couldn’t provide a business registration certificate but directed me to the Secretary of State website for alternative documentation. Below is a list of the documents I plan to provide—do you think I might encounter any issues? Is there anything I should include or exclude? Thank you in advance.

1. The companies initial filing and our name change amendment form as a substitute for the business registration certificate.

2. A Work-from-Home Authorization Letter confirming that I am permitted to work from home in accordance with company policies.

3. An Employment Verification Letter confirming my full-time status, job title, and the date of my most recent paycheck.

4. A screenshot of my employee profile that shows the organization I work under, the team I belong to, my manager, hire date, my length of service, and my location listed as "REMOTE-USA".

5. Latest pay-slips (3 months).

Hi all. I'd like to work from Thailand for a month per year annually and take annual leave either side of that, so trips would be around 2 months total. My wife is Thai and we've found (probably like everyone else) that a short trip just isn't long enough.

I work for a company in the financial sector in the UK and I'm expected to work primarily from our UK office, but company policy does allow for up to 1 month of remote work per year, as long as we have a visa to do so legally. So I couldn't visit on a tourist visa, for example, as it's not technically legal to do any remote work on that particular visa. As far as I'm aware the DTV is the only option.

My company have OK'd my request to work from Thailand and have given me permission to apply for the visa, but they're refusing to provide me with a permission letter (either mentioning Thailand specifically or remote work in general). Because of the nature of our business they don't want to give any indication that they're operating within Thailand or countries in which they're not registered, as it could get messy from a regulatory perspective. I'm not an investor myself (I work in digital), and none of the work I do involves Thai prospects or customers, and it won't for the forseeable future.

This has put me in a slightly tricky situation. I have an employment contract, but it doesn't explicitly state the terms remote work anywhere. It just states that I'm expected to work from our UK office for 11 months in any calendar year.

Are my chances pretty poor? I'm tempted to apply, highlighting the relevant section of my contract and giving more context through the cover letter, but I think the London embassy is probably like to want more info.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help.
