Can I skip my last leg of the flight to Chiang Rai and still retrieve my checked baggage later?

On my next trip I was considering not flying my last leg of the trip- my ticket goes to Chiang Rai through BKK. Normally this wouldn't matter because I need to collect my bags in BKK and recheck anyway. But this time my ticket seems to be different and I believe my bag will go all the way to Chiang Rai. Anyone ever been in this situation? Can I pickup my bag the next day or something?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the risks and potential issues with skipping the last leg of a flight to Chiang Rai from Bangkok, specifically regarding checked baggage. Community members emphasize that skipping a flight while having checked baggage is risky as airlines typically require passengers to be on the same flight as their luggage. If a passenger decides to skip their last connecting flight, they may not be able to collect their bags as expected and could face significant complications. It is advised to consult the airline regarding policies and whether it's necessary to rebook.

Always flown onward without collecting bags using a connecting ticket. You need to be on the flights with your bags so cannot just skip this connection without massive problems.

If you now plan to skip your onward flight your airline will advise whether you need to cancel whole ticket and rebook without the onward flight to chang rai. You need to ask them.

Roger, thank you.

Rule #1 of skiplagging is you don't check a bag. A million different things could happen to your bag. Legally it's not allowed to fly without you and they would have to hold the plane and go through all the bags in the hold until they find yours and take it off the plane. What actually happens, who knows. I wouldn't expect to see it for a while, if ever again.

ugh. On my last trip I decided to post a bunch of stuff and USPS freaking LOST 4 boxes for two months. Almost a thousand in shipping not even counting the items. Approved me to file a claim that would pay back like 10% of the value... Then suddenly two showed up in Thailand and two at the return address. Better outcome than a total loss, but super stressful and ultimately only 50% successful.
