TLDR : Answer Summary
To become an immigration volunteer in Thailand, you should visit your local immigration office to inquire about the application process. Generally, you need to fill out an application form and provide a CV along with copies of your passport and visa or extension page. While fluency in Thai and another language may be beneficial, the specific criteria can vary by immigration office. It's also worth noting that foreign volunteers might technically need the correct visa to volunteer, as immigration issues and labor regulations can apply, albeit often overlooked for such volunteer work.

awesome thank you George

Hang on, don't foreign volunteers in Thailand all need the correct volunteer visa to legally volunteer in Thailand? Or does this not apply to volunteers volunteering for immigration? Wouldn't that be a dark irony....? 😜

This makes me sad, because it's highlighting a stark corruption coming straight from the too down. What about the innocent charities where I wanna help that really help people in need. But immigration won't allow that, but they'll allow this. It's not fair. I feel they should do things by the book too, if they are gonna be throwing the book at others just trying to do good in Thailand.

Yes, technically. However, I doubt you would face a problem from immigration on this point. You might have a problem with the labor department for not having a work permit, though. But as Immigration seems to like this program (and why wouldn't they as it makes their jobs easier and costs them nothing) I think you could probably sleep well at night knowing you are very unlikely to get into any trouble with either immigration or the labor department as a Phuket Immigration Volunteer.

Back in the States, I noticed that police officers, and even former prosecutors never seemed to actually get speeding tickets. 😉 There's a lot of discretion shown in these sorts of circumstances. To be fair it's kind of a big deal for police officers to get traffic tickets as it can be considered a black mark against them by their department as it can be considered disregard for obeying the law.

Depends on the immigration office.

Go to your local immigration and talk to the volunteers. There's an application form. Need copy of CV and copy of passport page and last visa/extension page.

Very Prime job probably not easy if you don't know someone

Go to the immigration office and ask. I’m not sure of the criteria they’re looking for but probably that you are fluent in one language and in Thai.

World class in brown nosing seems a good start.

Usually the ones barking obscenities are the ones living in obscurity, cause they lack what it takes to be an active member of society. Pai ga glai leoiii tao jao lae, sao wow dee kwaa !

Phil Jones I can appreciate that and point well taken, but read many comments from Mr. Johnston and all were just nonsense trolling comments. As for the tiger, all I am permitted to say is we went there to check things out and those abusing the tigers are now closed.

With the Tiger having so much meaning and reverence here in the land of smiles, it's so far been a great inspiration for kids who normally shy away from talking in class to finally say what they feel about something. Nevertheless, might be a photo worth reconsideration, thanks for pointing it out.

That’s kind of unfair to people who volunteer their free time to help fellow foreigners navigate a unnecessarily burdensome and bureaucratic process as often as 6 times a year or more…

Isn’t it?

great reply to a tasteless comment.

What is that? Are you asking how to get a Volunteer visa?

No, I wanted to post in the other group, but didn't find it and Google is not my friend today. I mean the people who do volunteer work at immigration. Usually farangs in blue polo shirts.

Sorry, I use agent, I try to avoid immigration.

what ever, I use an agent because I am not wasting my valuable time standing in a long slow inefficient line.
