Multi part question.

1) Headed back to the US for the first time in a year and a half. Do I need anything other than my passport and my vaccine card?

2) I want to return in about a month. Lady and I will start working on marriage stuff then- do I just apply for a tourist visa?

3) When I came the application process was super painful and intricate through the website - is it the same now?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When returning to the US, US passport holders need only their passport. For those planning to return to Thailand soon and working on marriage plans, applying for a tourist visa is advisable, but visa exemption may be available if arriving before April 1st. The eVisa system remains the current method for obtaining a visa from the US.

Non US passport holders need an ESTA and covid vaccination certificate.

If you have a US passport, that's all you need to return to the US now. Only non-US residents need proof of vaccination.

You can apply for a tourist visa if you think you'll need the 15 extra days to get everything figured out, but if you arrive before April 1st you'll get 45 days visa exempt which you can extend for 30 days, which is 75 days total.

A tourist visa will give you 60 days with a 30 day extension, so 90 days total.

The evisa system is the only way to get a visa from the US.
