When I was a kid we had this bug zapper. It was amazing. Zap! Zap! ZAP!! All evening and a mound of dead bugs in the AM.

Tried to buy something similar here and... Well I can see dead bugs inside, but no satisfying light show.

Anyone know what has changed about the tech or products? If I spend more money will I get more action?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the effectiveness of bug zappers compared to the past, highlighting changes in technology and methods needed for better results. Users suggest that modern zappers may not offer the same exciting light displays and zaps, mentioning that light alone does not effectively attract mosquitoes without additional attractants. Recommendations include purchasing stronger or double-light models from platforms like Lazada or Shopee, as well as alternatives like using a fan to repel mosquitoes.

One way to make a simple protection from mosquitos is to have a fan aimed at you.

They're weak flyers

It goes off with a big zap! I can hear it across the room. U can also replace the light with blue leds. Works great.

I use the double horizontal light and it whacks many mosquitoes but everything else as well. I think it was 300 baht on Shopee.

If you wanting to kill mosquitoes then you need to use an attractant to draw them in. The light alone wonโ€™t attract mosquitoes. The light will attract flies , moths and a few other bugs that enjoy the light.

Octenol is one such attractant for mosquitoes.

Have seen commercial versions in restaurants ie more substantial looking but don't know if more effective or not .
