What should I do about my flight cancellations and layover concerns in Bangkok?

Hey folks pretty inexperienced at travel and have a situation. Headed back to USA briefly. Bought tickets with Expedia from CR to BKK on Thai Smile then from BKK to Taiwan and USA on Eva. After learning more the layover in BKK was deemed insufficient to make the transfer so I bought a new ticket on Nok from CR to DMK and will taxi to BKK. I'd like to try and get money back for the unused flight.

It has been suggested that if I do not use the first flight I might not be able to board the second flight. This makes me double concerned about cancelling it.

Suggestions?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing potential challenges with flight layovers and cancellations after changing their itinerary. Initially, they booked a flight from CR to BKK with Thai Smile and onward to the USA via Taiwan with Eva Air, but the layover time in BKK was insufficient. The user purchased a ticket from CR to DMK instead and is unsure how to proceed regarding the unused flights and the risk of being treated as a no-show for their second flight if they skip the first. Commenters suggested calling the airlines for clarification, emphasizing that if the flights are booked as a single ticket, missing the first leg might void the entire itinerary. They also proposed getting an earlier flight to avoid issues and to potentially book directly with the airline instead of through Expedia.

The flights are pretty cheap.

Get an earlier flight on Thai Smile or Air Asia directly to BKK.

Dump the original flight or spend a long time on the phone trying to change it.

Forget about going to DMK, it’s an hour from BKK and not any cheaper.

If your flight to TPE leaves really early, come to BKK the night before and stay at a local hotel.

Book directly with the local carrier and forget about Expedia. They can’t help you.

Teaser. Expedia said the only way for them to fix my not taking the first flight was yo cancel and rebook the same flights. They charged me 400 more bucks... And instead of booking the same flight out of bkk he booked it for tomorrow which I couldnt see until I got the email later

If booked together, once you miss the first flight, they will cancel the rest of your flight

If you booked it as one ticket from CR to BKK and onward then the "insufficient" time should automatically be corrected or handled by the airline. If booked separately then the booking and boarding in BKK has nothing to do with the other and won't matter.

Call both airlines to clarify.

If your 2 original bookings are under one booking no then you will not be able to to just turn up in BKK for the second flight because you will be treated as a no show and your entire booking is voided. Best to call the airline and find a way

Contrarywise, if bought separately, then No Worries.

How long have you got on the bkk layover?

Thai smile and Eva usually link their tickets together as "continuous flight" if purchased in one go (and not as 2 separate tickets). . If so, then baggage is checked in with Thai smile on a through ticket. So you don't collect baggage in BKK but wizz yourself across from domestic to international. You can call Eva and ask them.

Relax, go get stoned and grab a pooying during the spare stayover time in BKK.
