I had to get a new passport due to some water damage. I am coordinating my immigration renewal with the school currently. They are claiming that because it is a new passport there is an additional charge of 1,000 baht to transfer the stamp. Are they just trying to grift me?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is questioning a 1,000 baht charge from their school for transferring immigration stamps to a new passport after water damage necessitated a passport replacement. Community comments suggest that immigration services typically do not charge for this transfer when done directly at immigration offices, indicating that the school's charge may not be standard.

Not a big deal. Pay and get it. All done

If you do it yourself it costs nothing.

If you have someone else like an accountant/HR/visa service etc do it for you, they will charge between 1000-2000THB. So,, Depending on how efficient and friendly your local immigration office is, a lot of people find it easier to pay for the service.

Dude, 1000 baht is nothing. Compared to Vietnam it cost a whole new work permit and trc when you get a new passport.

Don’t be a cheep Charlie my visa is 2000 to transfer over to my new passport beats going to immigration

If someone wants to go to immigration for you and sort your passport out for a 1000 baht then that's good value really.

it's all supposed to be included in the service. This is my last extension via the one-year program. The school has been really intermittent in the quality of the service. It feels like them just seeing an opportunity to invent a charge

Charge inventing is inevitable :) I know what you mean though. 1000 baht will feed a Thai family for a few days or so. Just chalk it up to experience. Always be on good terms with your employer here when you leave, visa transfer, work permits and an employer reference will still need to be done.

I think I will challenge them on it. If rather feed my Thai family for a few days with it.
