My elderly aunt in the states has been thinking of moving in with us in Thailand, but it is looking like she might just need care back in the states. Does anyone know if my wife going as a temporary care giver is something attainable? I feel like I've heard things suggesting yes and no.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of your wife acting as a temporary caregiver in the US is complicated by visa restrictions. While there isn't a specific caregiver visa for short-term purposes, she may apply for a B1 or B2 visa, indicating her temporary purpose. However, she must meet all visa requirements. If she is your wife, there are options for her to obtain a green card or potentially a spouse visa, though these processes can be long and challenging.

Unlikely a Thai wife can go to the US unless she has a spouse or fiancée visa, a green card or US citizenship. Very long and difficult process for sure. My Thai wife got to the US because she outsmarted every person standing in her way and there were many. Left up to me, I would have failed to complete the task and I’m smarter than most people, just not smarter than my wife. Good luck.

I’m not sure if I’m missing something but if she’s your wife you have options including a green card and path to citizenship.

we aren't interested in permanent residence and the spouse visa takes quite a while and I don't know if aunt will have that long. Still hoping aunt can come spend her last chapters here, but starting to look at contingencies.

any visa you get for her is going to be a year + in the making and is a big process with struggles and disappointments. Perseverance is key!

being a green card holder or more in association to becoming recognized doe not require a residency, only an address to send paperwork and in addition your problem of getting her there for any reason using any method will not be any faster.

None of my business but it seems not already having done some of these things (as it’s to her and your benefit) is a little odd because why wouldn’t you? You can up your social security benefit (assuming you have) and facilitate more opportunity. Again, well aware it’s none of my business. 👌

well separately, we are in the process of trying for a tourist visa- but for the purpose of tourism not watching my aunt watch QVC. I was unaware being married increased your SS. I am not just passively not interested in returning, but actively opposed... I'm not opposed to gaming the system, but even pretending is distasteful

there’s no gaming the system. As an American citizen you are entitled! Your wife can receive up to an amount equal to 50% of your benefit.

The states does not have a caregiver type visa unless a person is intending on working as a caregiver permanently, that is the EB-3 visa. To travel there as you suggest, your wife would need apply for a B1 or B2 visa with a stipulation she is traveling there as a temporary care giver. Either way, she would have to meet all the requirements for either visa type.

Visa’s for Thai’s are difficult to obtain generally and unless she’s a certified caregiver it’s unlikely. It’s a daunting task to get a fiancé or spouse over as is.

There are a lot of qualified Filipino caregivers in the US already so you might look into that.
