TLDR : Answer Summary
The turnaround time for obtaining a tourist visa to Thailand online from the USA varies by consulate. Experiences shared indicate that while some applicants in Los Angeles received their visa in as little as 4 hours, others reported times ranging from 10 to 15 days. In New York, one individual received approval in about an hour. Overall, the processing time often depends on which consulate is handling the application, and many users have noted that once you are in the system, the process tends to be faster.

I need to move over to marriage visa, so I need to come on Tourist visa not exempt. I actually think I fucked up my application and might need to come back except and then do a border trip to Cambodia or something.

Is this done online, or must you go to a Thai embassy to get a stamp in your passport? Thank you.

Thank you. Unfortunately, they will not give me the visa because I'm not in the US.

everything is done online. Once approved, your consulate that services your paperwork emails you the visa paperwork which you present to immigration in Thailand with your boarding pass.

Just got a 60 day thru Los Angeles and it took 10 days. But I got one last year and it took 15 days. I think once you're in the system it's fast.

If you are American you can get visa on arrival in Thailand. Good for 30 days. And can extend another 30.

visa exempt entry means you don’t need a visa to get in. Visa on arrival means if you come from a country where you have to have a visa to get into Thailand, you can buy the visa upon landing.

Seems to differ depending on the embassy/consulate you have chosen. LA is around 14 days (although I haven’t seen any recent posts from people who’ve applied there).
