And another... i don't really want to do an onward ticket- originally I wrote my intention to cross to Laos at Chiang Khon by motorbike and included my greenbook and picture of the bike and they just reiterated "show is your flight". Anyone successfully navigated this before?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of obtaining a visa to Thailand, specifically regarding the requirement for an onward ticket. Some users recommend complying with the ticket demand as it is a prerequisite for visa approval. They suggest using budget services for onward tickets and express frustration over the rigidity of the rules, emphasizing the inconsistency in how travel is regulated post-COVID. Various opinions highlight the advantage of following established norms to avoid complications during entry into Thailand.

Jack, why do you always have so many problems. Since I been in this group you have posted a ton of posts. Maybe traveling is not your forte.

Passport for motorcycle? And why on earth that traveller on travel visa can have a motorcycle registered under their name? That is what immigration think and it is kind of showing that you live here not just visiting.

if you don't have 10 o15 $, to go out , you have a problem .

This onward ticket thing is always a gamble. Mostly it is the airline who asks. No guessing why, they are the ones making money out of it. Yes I understand it may be enforced by the country you are visiting, but I hate systems/ rules that have no point at all to them. Just because someone has a flight, does not mean they are going to get on it. And it stuffs up responsible travellers flying by the seat of their pants so to speak and making decisions closer to the time they will be required to exit the county. I for one would love it if they did away with it altogether. Make huger penalties for those who overstay.

that's too logical mate. No way this could happen. TIT remember 555

😂😂😂 I am hearing you.

If the passenger get refused entry, the airline is obligated to bring the passenger back to the the departure airport, and if planes are close to full, it can be a problem to bring passengers back on next flight.
Henrik *****
The alternative would be that the airline only transports you, if your return ticket is on the same dates as your visa / visa excempt.

Then if wanting to extend the stay in Thailand, you will need to have a ticket with the possibility to change the date of the return, and those tickets are quite expensive.

I understand the situation, but I don’t see why there is this situation, just because someone does or does not hold a ticket they may or may not use. It’s commonly called ridiculous. There is another R word, but Facebook doesn’t like it. Having a ticket out-in a months time does nothing to help this situation you mention either.

@Sam ****
, it is not an uncommon practice, especially in East and SE Asia

@Mitchell ******
it’s actually a requirement of most countries, that may at times be enforced, if they want. Still a stupid pointless rule, that does not achieve one single thing.
Mitchell *******
Also, if you have a return ticket say 6 months later, the airline may not care as much, since they don't have to house you, just transport you back on the next available flight. You may have paid for a business class return, but if you are sent back, they can put you in a middle seat in row 59.
Mitchell *******
Buy a flight to Kuala Lumpur or somewhere easy. Then either get a refund, change the date, or eat the ticket cost.

I will probably do this, and I don't mind much, I just find it inscrutable that they appear only to accept plane tickets. Boats and cars and motorbikes and buses leave the country too.
Henrik *****
You just have to have a ticket, that proves you will be leaving that way, within the visaperiod.

Rental vehicles is normaly not allowed to leave the country they are rented in, without special agreement.

You are just stubborn and want to do things your own way, instead of doing things as the rest of us.

no, I am merely incredulous that the system is blind in this way and wanted to see if there was a way to do it right before throwing up my hands and doing it wrong.
Nigel *********
What visa are you applying for?
Brian ********
Get an onward ticket. If you want a visa, you do what they say you have to do. No one cares if you like it or not.

god forbid I try to see what my options are

@Jack ***************
seems like if they require an onward ticket your options are get an onward ticket or don't get the visa.

seems like you think cross culture and language communication is smooth and that things in Thailand work the same from one time to the next. Go be antisocial somewhere else. It's not helpful and boring.

@Jack ***************
no, I just find it's easier to just do the little things instead of fighting them. Some things are worth fighting, but most aren't.

and I find it's worth putting some effort into trying to do the right thing the right way before I throw my hands up and doing goofy shit. And if you weren't also interested in pushing for what you think is the right outcome you wouldn't have even commented.
Henrik *****
Consider this, you get granted a permission to visit a foreign country for a certain period, isn’t then fair, you thank for the permission, by showing the host, that you intend to leave within the granted period !

That is plain courtesy.

what part of leave by land border is confusing for you?
Carsten ************
@Jack ***************
If you hold a Visa for that neighbouring country and a flight tix home from there, you will be fine.
Crystal ***********
Just use OnwardTicket . com , cheap and easy.
Matthias *********
It's 15 bucks well invested. I also thought I don't need that and then they pulled me out for interrogation at Suvarnabhumi. Ticket was screened back an forth and copies taken by them.

my other concern with this (beyond it just being silly) is that the site says the rental is only.dor 1-2 days

find a site that lets you pay for longer validity.

it's been a long time since I used one. Just Google "onward travel ticket" and look at what options they offer. Some offer to let you pay for longer validity.
Andrew *********
I just got a tourist visa in England and only showed them a one way ticket 😊

@Andrew ********
You'll need an onward ticket when you check in. The airline is the one who usually asks for it
