Was just looking at flights to USA and back- second week of March to first week of April, and they are double what I usually pay. Is there something going on that is driving the price spike?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The spike in flight prices from Thailand to the USA during the second week of March to the first week of April can be attributed to several seasonal factors. March through mid-April is still considered high season for travel, particularly with the looming Songkran festival on April 13th and Spring Break in the US, which often leads to increased travel demand.
I am not sure how it relates going from USA to Thailand and back, but I got round trip tickets from Qatar airways for about $1200 usd. The key factor was it is with 60 days advance purchase. I did this last week.
There is a massive influx of people leaving the US (for whatever reason) right now, which is causing price hikes. Couple that with massive inflation and currency fluctuations — and regardless of political views, politics also play a significant role in prices due especially right now due to uncertainty it is causing worldwide (not just caused by the US). However, the drastic price hike isn't not just affecting the US; it is also affecting Canada (albeit not nearly as drastically).
As the first three words. Supply and demand. Demand is high. Supply not as much. Airlines have staffing issues since Covid. Possibly not as many daily flights so prices rise.
Book flights as early as possible to mitigate any fare rises. And generally the fares never go down.
