TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the viability of using the income method to maintain a marriage visa in Thailand. Many people confirm using this method, but there's a growing concern that some immigration offices now require the income to be sourced from a job in Thailand. Individuals who are retired wonder if pension income qualifies. For those already on a marriage visa, it's noted that the previous requirement of maintaining 400,000 THB in a bank account must be fulfilled until the next extension application, after which the income method can be employed.

I think your comments about the EU are incorrect ?The actual facts are that a Referendum result triggered us leaving the EU.

Do some real research, lots of birdbrains " farangs" in Thailand. Increasing by the fact, england was kicked out of the EU, followed by the ever increasing Yanks. Enjoy the most polluted seasonal country on the planet. Yeah .. lived there, owned businesses, pipe down.
that was impressively sour, off topic, and unhelpful. You interjected yourself into a conversation that seems to have nothing to do with you, shit on three countries, did a weird humble brag, and then told the host to shutup.
I bet you punched in pubs more often than most people.
hey Gray, as you can see the calibre of input here is pretty low today. Where are you and how long have you been doing it? Are your deposits from overseas or from work here? How long did you keep the 400k in the bank?
you need to understand, you can surely empty you account after you have been granted an Extension of Stay Permit for one year.
However, the one year extended stay permit requires you to show the 400,000 THB back in your account two months before you apply for the next Extension.
Because you current Extension is based on the deposit method, you will need the 400,000 THB on your account until the very last day of the expiry of your current stay permit.
After your application, Immigration allows you to use the income method and will issue a new Extension based on marriage using the income method.
Only AFTER you have been issued the new Extension, you can clear the 400K from your account
Not any sooner than that! Don’t easily trust what people tell you. Always expect the unexpected – and this includes the Thai Immigration

Unfortunately a lot more immigration offices in Thailand are only excepting this method if you have a job in Thailand. It is best to use the banked method, but contact your local immigration office to see if they will still allow you to use the monthly income method.

What if you’re retired? Income from pension?

Lots of people do. But it appears some offices are starting to require the income be from a job in Thailand.
Just ensure you continue to meet the 800k conditions (800k for the first 3 months then never below 400k) for your current extension stamp to enable the switch
Yes but to switch to the income method for your second extension (bank deposits or Embassy affadavit) you must have met the 400k in the bank for the first year requirement
400k for the whole first year? Hmm maybe I need to get in and sit down with the office because I had thought it was just for 2 months after you applied.
Your question is justified! . . . . . . . you need to STILL have the 400,000 THB in your Thai bank account ON THE VERY SAME DAY you intend to visit Immgration and apply for the next Extension of Stay Permit based on marriage with a Thai wife, and on this occasion wish to switch from the deposit method to the income method. A word of WARNING: just DON'T empty your 400,000 THB account before you haven't been issued the new 1-year Extension using the income method
