TLDR : Answer Summary
An American is seeking advice about marrying a Thai citizen, particularly regarding embassy procedures and required documents. The discussion highlights the need for proof of being single, involvement of the US embassy for notarizing documents, and special considerations based on nationality regarding the ease of obtaining necessary paperwork. Users provide insights on the appointment process and required documents, including divorce papers for the Thai partner.

Some one else will probably give you better advise. You need to make an appointment. It is a affidavit costs $50 to get stamped I got mine in USA embassy. Thai will need document showing she is not married. Don't forget the Thai department of state paper work.

Sorry for the delay folks, life got busy and I got some information via PM. Also I asked for Americans specifically because embassy stuff can be different...

My understanding is I will download a document from Thai gov site that is the proof of being single and I will get this stamped at US embassy is this correct? Do you make an appointment for this or is it a walk in? For the Thai person she will need divorce papers from the province she was married in?

actually it is different depending on which country you are from. Not in a difference of required documents, specifically the required right to marry document, but how easy it is to obtain that notarized document from your embassy. It is a very simple process with the US embassy, but much more difficult with countries like Germany, and the UK.

um, maybe it involves something that is particular to USA/Americana like visas procedures etc…in which case, getting information or advice from other nationalities would be moot…just a thought…
