Yes, that was before COvid. Since Covid the Embassy started requiring appointments (actually they started it before covid too, but like 2 months before it started).

The UK has the Evisa system up right? Just apply for an Evisa in the UK.

Border runs and visa runs are 2 different things. Plenty of vans will take you to the border, you walk out and walk back in with a visa exempt entry.

If you want to go to the Thai embassy and apply for the visa (in Vientiane anyway) you need to make an appointment online.

You need to make an appointment at the Embassy in Laos. Did you make one yet? I've read availability is like 2 months out.

Thats the great thing about southeast Asia and really anyplace close to the equator, rain rarely lasts all day. Normally it will rain 5-10 minutes at a time 2-3 times a day during rainy season.
