TLDR : Answer Summary
The question raised whether a Thailand Pass could be used as a driving license. Responses overwhelmingly confirmed that this is not the case, and users advised obtaining an International Driving Permit instead. Several comments shared humorous and sarcastic remarks about the question, emphasizing that a valid driving license is necessary. Discussions included fines for not having proper documentation while driving in Thailand.

Thailand has just set up a joint venture with Universal and Disney. You can also use your thai pass to jump all the queues
Paul *******
But you have to pay 10 times more if you're Thai.

What is the advertised purpose of the Thailand Pass? To gain entry into the country. To use your drivers license, you get an international driving permit. This is like asking if you can use your passport as a driving license.

your bus pass or student ID will not work either. Only thing that works is your issued driver's license combined with the international driving permit.
Bruce *****
Yes
Glyn *********
NO and if you drive round like some know alls do with no insurance or in the case of a motorbike no helmet then you are asking for trouble.

Harsh! My momma always use to say "If you do not have something nice to say...then just keep your darn mouth shut!"
Mark ******
And yet....Here you are today! Your momma gave you good advice and did you listen? No!

Boy! You should have listened to your momma. You need a good whopping!

PS: As an aside, and because your momma seemed to be a sensible person....I am sure that she had also told you to be polite and not be rude!
Charles ****************
@Mark *****
wow, your mama is so impressive.
Mark ******
@Charles ***************
Ummm! Just a tiny bit about my momma but the bulk of the momma-mia had belonged to Ross's momma....meaning the "dumbass" part! And the other momma's parts were just about the hypothetical Ross's momma of what she must have also taught him along with not being a "dumbass". So if there were any impressions and compliments of an impressive momma then they should go to him and his momma.

Now, as for my momma, well, she had also told me to never accept a compliment when someone else deserves it more than I!
Ross ********
@Mark *****
and mine said don't be a dumbass

With Thailandpass you can check in hotels, rent cars and motorcycles, show to the cops, impress the bargirls, charter boats and so on! Thailandpass is a good investment and lets you stay out of trouble even if you stir up trouble!

Mauro ********************
Sure... Don't worry.. Thai police love stop farang just for funny and they always ask to me Thai pass... I have and can pass!! 😁
Dimitri ********
I heard that a fine for not having an international license is 500 Baht. That is cheaper than the price of an international driving license in my home country NL.
Dan ***********
@Dimitri *******
Yeah, but you could have to pay the fine every day. Today they were conducting strict enforcement near Central Festival and nearly every farang was stopped and checked. 400 baht for no helmet and not sure how much for no international license, but 500 Baht sounds right.
Dimitri ********
@Dan **********
I am driving for 4 years already. And they never checked me. Maybe it helps if you drive in a car with dark tinted windows πŸ˜ƒ
Tom *******
@Dimitri *******
yeah I drive in a car with heavily tinted windows. Works a treat.
Dan ***********
@Dimitri *******
You have a good point. I drive a motorbike. If you do not make eye contact, they think that you did not see them flagging you over (same with a car and tinted windows) and MOST of the time they will not go after you (from what I have seen).
Nick *******
@Dimitri *******
I can confirm it's 500 baht . Left it in my hotel then got stopped πŸ™„

Upside the policeman told me to always have a picture of the IDL on my phone . Got stopped again ( licence in hotel) picture on my phone saved me another 500 baht πŸ‘
Petio ********
@Dimitri *******
the fine for me was 1000 baht and another 1000 for the offense. As it happens though, that day there was a 50% off on fines. I got a receipt and all
Dimitri ********
@Petio *******
Just today I saw an article with a photo of the fine, 500 Baht. Maybe it is different in different areas. I am driving here already for 4 years. I was never checked. Till now 😬
Petio ********
@Dimitri *******
ah yes, regional differences makes sense. In any case, we're sure it's cheaper than the price of a home-grown international driving license :)
John ********
Sure I see no reason why this won’t work,carry bribe money just in case🀣
Aaron *******
No. You can get an International Driving Permit @ any AAA location in the USA, to be used in conjunction with a valid USA drivers license. Good for 1 year
Ahmed ********
Dude is asking the real questions
Coburn ******************
Yes! Just hope and pray you don't get stop by police!!!
Garry ********
Don’t forget the 50% discount on the bar fine πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
Liam ********
Go to the post office in the Uk πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ if your from there and ask for a international driving permit for Thailand best Β£5.50 you will spend
Steve **********
I’m guessing someone with β€œThailand” as part of their profile name asked this brilliant question πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
Bennito *********
No, you can use your vaccination certificate
Jonathan ***********
A few baht can be used as a driving licence while in Thailand
Gary *********
I wouldn’t have thought so. What ever made you think that ?
Paulus *********
Er no ! It's not a driving licence is it
