What is the advertised purpose of the Thailand Pass? To gain entry into the country. To use your drivers license, you get an international driving permit. This is like asking if you can use your passport as a driving license.
your bus pass or student ID will not work either. Only thing that works is your issued driver's license combined with the international driving permit.

NO and if you drive round like some know alls do with no insurance or in the case of a motorbike no helmet then you are asking for trouble.
If you are from the UK, go to post office with 2 passport size photos, Β£5, and get International driving license, valid for a year I have one and have used it in Thailand no problem.
Ummm! Just a tiny bit about my momma but the bulk of the momma-mia had belonged to Ross's momma....meaning the "dumbass" part! And the other momma's parts were just about the hypothetical Ross's momma of what she must have also taught him along with not being a "dumbass". So if there were any impressions and compliments of an impressive momma then they should go to him and his momma.
Now, as for my momma, well, she had also told me to never accept a compliment when someone else deserves it more than I!
With Thailandpass you can check in hotels, rent cars and motorcycles, show to the cops, impress the bargirls, charter boats and so on! Thailandpass is a good investment and lets you stay out of trouble even if you stir up trouble!
Sure... Don't worry.. Thai police love stop farang just for funny and they always ask to me Thai pass... I have and can pass!! π

I heard that a fine for not having an international license is 500 Baht. That is cheaper than the price of an international driving license in my home country NL.
Yeah, but you could have to pay the fine every day. Today they were conducting strict enforcement near Central Festival and nearly every farang was stopped and checked. 400 baht for no helmet and not sure how much for no international license, but 500 Baht sounds right.
You have a good point. I drive a motorbike. If you do not make eye contact, they think that you did not see them flagging you over (same with a car and tinted windows) and MOST of the time they will not go after you (from what I have seen).
I can confirm it's 500 baht . Left it in my hotel then got stopped π
Upside the policeman told me to always have a picture of the IDL on my phone . Got stopped again ( licence in hotel) picture on my phone saved me another 500 baht π
Just today I saw an article with a photo of the fine, 500 Baht. Maybe it is different in different areas. I am driving here already for 4 years. I was never checked. Till now π¬
ah yes, regional differences makes sense. In any case, we're sure it's cheaper than the price of a home-grown international driving license :)
