I am returning to Bkk this evening on a 30-day visa exemption and will get a 30-day extension tomorrow. Next week I plan to go to Laos to get a one-year multi-entry based on marriage. Is this service available again now? It's been a few years since I last did a visa run, whose is it best to go with?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user plans to return to Bangkok on a 30-day visa exemption and seek a 30-day extension before heading to Laos to obtain a one-year multi-entry visa based on marriage. They inquire about the availability of this service, and comments indicate that appointments may be necessary at the embassy in Laos, with bookings possibly extending up to two months. Additional clarification reveals that the number of days left on the Thai visa does not affect the application for the multi-entry visa in Laos. Some suggest alternative locations for visa runs.

Savannakhet or HCMC are the places to go.

if you're planning to get the multi entry based on marriage in Laos then days left on your thai permission to stay is irrelevant.

My question(s) was i) can I still get one at Vientianne and 2) do they still run the mini van service (see previous post).

@Colin *******
yes you can get one in Vientiane but they operate a booking system so it's not just an in and out situation. It takes 2 working days and is clearly explained on their website. I've no idea about vans.

becr they used to require a cerain number of days remaining on your visa to apply forvthecone, year multi entry AND,I said,I was, planning, which means,I may not be able to go next week so I would rathercget the extension now rather than to find I'm short later.
John **********
Why are you getting an extension when you plan to leave next week?

You need to make an appointment at the Embassy in Laos. Did you make one yet? I've read availability is like 2 months out.

July, I left last Saturday to go back to China to my job but cannot. I've just re-entered on another 30 day exempt so can I extend this one also? I have been offered work in Thailand with my old job here, and I have a Thai wife. What are my best options?

embassy in Laos Vientiane only issues single entry's now. Multiple entries Visa must be applied for at Savannakhet

The multi entry is only available in Savannakhet, no appointment required there.

is that just vientiane or savanaket as well

I know Vientiane, not sure about Savanaket honestly. I'd check before going down there.

See if it happens first probably be on ship in Singapore when my extension runs out. Easier to go to Loas for couple of days instead of farting around with immigration in country

The UK has the Evisa system up right? Just apply for an Evisa in the UK.

don't the mini-vans do visa runs now? There used to be a good one run by a fillipino guy and his thai wife + daughter

Border runs and visa runs are 2 different things. Plenty of vans will take you to the border, you walk out and walk back in with a visa exempt entry.

If you want to go to the Thai embassy and apply for the visa (in Vientiane anyway) you need to make an appointment online.

what I meant was before they did 2 day visa runs whereby you would stay overnight in the hotel. On arrival in Vientiane they took you directly to the embassy to submit your passport for either the TV or multi-entry etc and there was never the need to pre-book (although everyone was supposed to). Thd next day they would pick up the, passports and you would travel back to Bkk

Yes, that was before COvid. Since Covid the Embassy started requiring appointments (actually they started it before covid too, but like 2 months before it started).
