I was just commenting on the difference between 14 days and 10 days quarantine all I done was comment on why the quarantine should be different times. How could I possibly says that Thailand is going about it the wrong way. The death rate is proof they are doing something right.I have been traveling to Thailand for over 20 years and class it as the best place on this planet. If I have to wait to see my friends and family then so be it. But over that 20 years I have learned that the government haven’t always had the best interest of there people heart. All I was doing was to say that no matter where you come from quarantine is quarantine as Thailand as found out that it can get through the most rigorous of tests.

I do not see evidence that the tests taken by those getting of planes from whereever are useful or the airlines should never have allowed them onto the plane in the first plane. Around 300 have landed since March found to have Covid 19.

There is also anecdotal evidence in a rise of foreign suicides during the Covid-19 pandemic although there are no official statistics about the current rates.

Thailand, ranked in 32nd place in 2019 with 14.4 of suicides per 100.000 population… nearly 10,000 suicide deaths in 2019, The country holds the unenviable position of number 1 among ASEAN

the symptoms of dengue fever are normally very different to covid and a few dozen deaths from that does nothing to suggest the thai government is hiding tens of thousands of covid deaths, and hundreds of thousands of covid hospitalisations, as they would need to be doing if covid is anything like as prevalent here as it is in the west. the only similarity between covid and dengue is how seriously the thai government takes it (they follow up with every dengue fever case, survey the patient on their recent movements, and send pest control teams to areas where patterns emerge to try to eradicate the mosquitoes).

I agree that they should be taking small steps but a negative test is a negative test. And if after 10 or 14 days your negative your negative doesn’t matter what country your from. If I was an American or a Brit with 10 million baht to invest or require medical treatment I would be granted a visa. If after quarantine and a negative test you catch COVID then that’s Thailand’s failure. It should be about the disease not the country

it's impossible to eliminate all risks (many people cross thailand's land borders illegally every day for example). the key is about balancing risk and return. allowing visitors in from countries where the incidence of covid is similar to thailand (with the added condition of testing and 10 days quarantine) is so close to zero risk it may as well be zero (similar to risk of a new round of mad cow disease from imported beef), and when compared to the value to the economy it's a no brainer to allow visitors from those key asian markets to return.

yes covid acts the same but far less people are infected in east asian / south east asian countries than in europe / america, by several orders of magnitude in fact, so for example, the risk of an infected person slipping through quarantine is the same for 100 western tourists as it would be for 100,000 or 1,000,000 asian tourists, so obviously it makes sense to prioritize the latter.

not sure their logic will get their desired result ...10 days quarantine might encourage a few from those countries, but NO quarantine , then that's different again ...that would be the kicker for many thousands to return , and that to me is the LOGICAL way forward ...tests before leaving and on arrival a further safeguard
